Trying to get a refund on an old flight that I couldnt take due to Covid.

They refund your original form of payment.

That credit card is now paid off. So how would the refund work?

Goes as a credit to your account, future purchases will count against that credit instead of adding to a balance. You should be able to ask the credit card company to return it to a bank account too

^ That. If you don't use it, after a few months, the credit card company will just send you a check as well.

I use a Chase Bank credit card and I've had refunds basically put my credit card balance to a negative balance. I didn't bother going for a refund because A, it'd likely be a pain in the ass, and B, that money's going to go to a future credit card payment anyways, so why bother moving it back to a cash state when it's just going to go BACK to a credit card payment?

I dont get it. You can just put regular expenses on the credit card to use it up. Do you just never use credit cards? I use mine everyday. I carry almost no cash.

I try to only use it in emergency situations at this point.

Every time Ive tried to use it casually, I end up with a much bigger balance than expected lol.

Yeah, posts 2 and 3 are spot on. Depending on the card company, they should be good about issuing you a refund check if you call and explain the situation. Otherwise it could take a month or 2 before they just automatically cut you one.

My advice is to just get one with a company or service you use most often. I use the Amazon Prime card and the points convert automatically to never-expiring dollars on Amazon. Aaaand you can convert them to regular rewards on the Chase site itself if you want (for travel reservations or gift cards or cashback)
