just bought a loft, wanted to do some light construction i've seen other units do, so i know it's allowed. i emailed the HOA head, it's been 4 days and still no reply. i have scheduled the contractor for tmrw because i want it done before i move in
just go ahead and do it? worst case they give me a small fine, but probably just a stern letter because i just moved in --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Depends on your HOA. If theyre assholes, theyll make you undo any of the changes you did with the contractor.

I feel like "construction" is a lot to ask of a condo HOA/board. What exactly is the project?

I would consider breaking protocol and not following the rules that you agreed to abide by a good reason, if they want to be assholes about it. I'm building an extra privacy wall around the bedroom. I don't think "breaking protocol" would be a valid reason. They'd probably rather just fine me, that way the money actually goes to them. Worst case I'll just tell them I don't have the money to undo the construction, not much they can do then. Plus I'm new so think they might take it easy. If the construction violated any codes or changed structures, I think they would ask me to undo it but it does not --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Call the property management company and ask if they even got the email. "Just checking to see if I sent it to the right address" kind of thing.

Call the property management company and ask if they even got the email. "Just checking to see if I sent it to the right address" kind of thing. I triple checked, I sent it to the right place. This what I'm referring to in the topic title tho. Worst case he tells me I need to wait for formal approval and I end up wasting time. Best case he tells me to go ahead in which case nothing changes. I'd rather not have any delays at this point as I want to move in soon and it's impossible to get a contractor willing to do such a small job and is available. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

it's a 1.5 day job too so not that long. no front door staff working in the building due to covid. so there's a chance they may not even find out.

Oh so everything is just interior work. Who the hell cares then LOL. Yea fuck HOAs. oh correct, yeah it's all interior work. it's a "loft style" condo so my bedroom only has 3 walls (no door). i wanted to build that 4th wall/door for extra privacy. don't really want to move in before that happens. it's a 1 day job, 2.5k. then another day of work for paining, which costs 2k --- ... Yeah for a short job that has gone unanswered for four days, just do it. You did your part and you've raised the resale value.
