Anyone got a roundabout estimate on how much it would cost for a visit to Japan for like a week would be?

This depends so much on where in japan and what kind of accommodations you want. Visiting from Pittsburgh?

Yeah I am from Pittsburgh.

Idk. Let's says 7 days. 1 trip to Universal Studios there. 2 people. And the rest of the days is just sightseeing. We looking at 5 grand?

I went over 10 years ago. I think it ended up costing me like between $2500-3000?

3,000 for 10 years seems like a great deal. When are you coming back to the states?

I wouldn't be going right now. This is forward thinking and eyeballing a number to aim for savings wise.

You're probably looking at $2-3k in airfare alone for 2 people. Hotel another $1-2k depending how nice you want to go. If you want to do anything in Tokyo (Universal is in Osaka) you'll have to factor in travel to an from which is probably around $500 round trip for the two of you (you might want to get a rail pass if you plan to move around a lot). Then you factor in food, souvenirs, other travel, etc. it's probably in $5-7k range depending how much you want to splurge

Cost me around $1.3k for 10 days, but then I live much closer to Japan and didn't buy a whole lot, mainly just sightseeing and transport fees. Quite a bit cheaper outside Tokyo as well.

Tickets seem about $800-900 a person for the flight. There was some for 600 but with an additional 15 hours of flight time lol.

Any huge city could cost you as much as you want to pay. Im interested in going to Japan for the food, so I could see dropping thousands on a few restaurants

If you are looking for the absolute cheapest you could go to Japan you are probably looking at around $700 for a flight plus ....$20 a night for a hostel or so plus food and transportation costs?

But honestly if your budget is that shoestring I would probably just save money until you could drop $3k a head on the trip given how expensive the airfare is and how hard it is to logistic your way around the world

I feel like I do it pretty cheap. My cost for a week is usually around

1,000 for flight
600 for hotel ( I typically look for a family run places where you get a futon but they're comfy as hell )
150 food (one restaurant a day, rest is grocery store/conbini)
20 train if you stay in Tokyo
400 if you go to another big city

Then whatever you want to spend on attractions and things

One trick to saving money on any trip is to go grocery shopping. It's one of those Rick Steves tricks, you get to experience the other country's everyday life and save money on your food bills.

2 years ago with 6 friends for 3 weeks
About $5300
But keep in mind that some things can change the price greatly

Most notably -
Airplane ticket
Airbnb (if you go by yourself I don't know how much it would cost)
And a train ticket - a Rail Pass is expensive. Maybe you can do without. Depends on you

I was planning a trip for two before the pandemic and it was coming in around $15k for 2.5 weeks. I suppose you can do it for cheaper if you just stay in Tokyo and avoid the temptation of eating amazing sushi dinners all the time.

Actually checked again
More like ~$5000

Also I have a complete break down of it because I am crazy like that but in general-

AIRBNB - $1570
Flight - $1300 (was a direct from Israel so a US Citizen will spend less)
Railpass - $600

The remaining $1530 were general spendings - Arcades, food, 7/11, transportation not covered by Railpass (plenty..turns out..), Gacha machines, souvenirs and of course attractions (DisneySea, Robot Restaurant etc)

I also got scammed and paid $70 for a Ghibli Museum ticket. Don't be like me
