(No this isn't gonna interfere with my Game Pass stuff, I like having two games going at once!)

*Progressive spoilers shall follow*

Well this is it, the big one. All those silly numbered games were merely warmup for the grand adventures of Layle From SMFFFC. I think only one person on the board has played this game, so this topic is mainly for her and MartinFF7 lol. This won't be a full in-depth playthrough topic like my others probably, just somewhere to note my thoughts. I know nothing about this game going in aside from the names Layle and Belle.

So I've already played a few hours of this, and overall I'm liking it. It's a different vibe from typical FF, and it feels pretty creative. There's no stock FF tropes we have to abide by (except crystals), no regular gameplay mechanics we must follow, this game is just bouncing from one area to the next like a chill action adventure movie.

Layle is charming and affable (though he looks a tad too young in the face for his character). Everyone else is fine too, Belle is indeed fun. Layle and Belle have a pretty great dynamic, and just in general the characters feel a bit more streetwise and world-weary than in other FF stuff. Cid is a good Cid. The Selkie leader (forget his name) is also good, Keiss is ok. The Selkie who is actually a princess (the instruction manual spoiled this!) is... nothing so far. I like how low stakes things are for Layle- the Yuke (great design) is on about some typical JRPG world changing stuff but he's just swinging along from place to place trying to get paid. I get Han Solo vibes from him. The snarky snark dialogue isn't bothering me so far, I'm actually quite enjoying it, but we'll see how that goes.

The plot is kinda intriguing, though we know very little at this point. The Lilty/Selkie/Cravat/Yuke/Crystal Bearer dynamic is pretty cool, as is the worldbuilding overall. I like the little messages scrolling at the bottom of the screen giving background lore, but my nature requires me to sit and read all of them before moving to another area, which can be a bit annoying as they're sometimes cut off >_>

Unfortunately the gameplay isn't quite as good as everything else. For one, it's really weird to me that we can't just talk to random passersby. I know that's a tiny detail but it's something I'm so used to by now (and a feature that was in every FF before this one!). The battle system is probably the weakest part for me at the moment, I do like the ways you can use the enemies against each other but the actual battling itself is so far pretty much just grabbing and throwing things at other things. And the enemies respawning/despawning after a set amount of time? I don't like that.

The minigames are actually more fun than the battles, constantly mixing things up and whisking you away wherever the game needs you to go. I get the feeling this is a game designed for replayability, especially with all the medals. The fishing is nice. I was terrible at turning the airship.

So, an update on where I am: I just assisted in an absolutely absurd butt battle on the beach with Belle and some... other people. Then there was a fun, if also absurd, train minigame where the other passengers aren't the slightest bit concerned about you sliding around under their seats (it was fun that some of the others were hiding too). I just got back to the capital and stopped things there, so I don't think I'm very far. I'm digging the vibes of this game+world a lot, everything is so cool. We'll see how things go!

Yuup definitely what I like about it (plus as you go on regarding Layle and Belle's characters being more independent and experienced in their world than the usual FF protags), and if you're enjoying that then I think playing the game over watching my movie version is a good choice! Bearers is definitely at its best just taking your time a chilling out and exploring the world and Layle's mechanics.

he Selkie leader (forget his name) is also good
Vaigali~ His rivalry with Cid is enjoyable, and he does get better throughout although I do prefer Cid.

Lilty! Selkies are Belle/Keiss, Lilties are Althea/Jegran/Cid, Ami the Yuke, Layle the Clavat.

and yeah Althea's whatever. My top 3 is definitely Layle, Belle, and Amidatelion (aka Goldenrod / "the Yuke")........ Ami's not really a Han Solo type tho tbqh, they have a much greater sense of purpose.

Gameplay yeah, that's why it's hard for me to really recommend people to actually play it, and why I made the movie (other than the fact that nobody's gonna wanna go buy a game because I save Layle in smff-... oh hey wait). It's not the most responsive Wiimote motion, even rolling isn't always consistent, but like you mention I do enjoy the different interactions with monsters and the like. As an early example getting the Bombs to explode on enemies.

Random encounters can get in the way, I forget if they're less frequent after you've cleared one (closed the miasma stream and collected the myrrh). Although I do like a lot of the revisited battles in the areas, more advanced enemies are certainly more interesting with the mechanics.

Fishing can be very tricky until you really get the feel of it.

Oh god the train minigame feels a lot longer when you're doing replays lol... not as frustrating as a later minigame that requires 0 damage taken for a Gold medal and makes you wanna kill yourself after a million fails. The actually worst minigame though is towards the end with some big spoilery stuff and it's honestly just excruciating since there's not even much actions for you to take but a whole lotta waiting.

But yep! The vibes you're talking about goes a really long way for why I ultimately really like the game and its characters.

also while I mention getting gold in a certain later minigame with no damage, I do really like the medals for all the many different things you can do

warning though there is one bugged medal that just... doesn't trigger well. Pollen Bearer: it's supposed involve killing a Bloomer with another Bloomer in some way.... I can't even remember the exact way that actually worked for me because I had to try so many times, sometimes involving a third bloomer knocked on the ground, often retrying the same methods until eventually I got the medal.

Sounds good enough to me! I'm just amazed the speedruns are so close to my movies fastforwarded battle/exploration/minigame sequences.

Although on the other hand I did intentionally do some side exploring just to show off more content albeit still fastforwarded. Like no speedrun's gonna do any fishing like I did. Picking up mail, or checking though the billboard videos to find the FFCC ad.

Probably didn't even visit the library and wreck havoc!

Oh man

I've got like 5 clear moments of the game that are my favourite parts (4 of them involve Belle, go figure) and what might be my favourite is the blackmail letter on the train. Belle is so great!!!

Problem is all my favourite moments are in the first half of GMUN's "movie", granted that's probably still past the game's halfway point when you take the ending into account or any sidequests/minigames you'll be doing, but still... will be interested in your thoughts on the latter part of the game when you get there. Including the dreaded minigame from hell, lol.

tbf FFCC was probably screwed over hard by the mobile versions which hopefully wouldn't be a thing for Bearers

but yeah Switch would be great for it what with y'know the joycons allowing for the return of Wii motion games like Skyward Sword

It's just... I mean with the level of bomba Bearers produced it's hard to hold any potential hope. At least Opera Omnia gives the game an absurd amount of love! Literally more TCB characters than Tactics ones, and the Keiss and Amidatelion lost chapters are really cool for actually progressing beyond the original game's ending somewhat.

Woo someone else who has played it!

Honestly i'm surprised I never heard about this game before last year. It's a Final Fantasy on a very successful console that didn't have any mainline FFs on it (except TAY >_>), and from what I've seen it's quite good! I wonder why it fell under the radar, could just be that late-era Wii thing where every game was DOA.

From what I see some negative reviews at the time were just criticising the game for not being a JRPG, which seems silly to me. But I guess at the time there weren't many good JRPG options on the Wii maybe? Still weird.

And yeah, the game seems really well-suited to a remaster, just gotta make the motion controls optional somehow and put a fresh coat of paint on everything and you'd be good to go! Hard to see how they could mess it up with no online component like in FFCC. Of course the problem is convincing Square that people would buy it...

oh woop yeah I should've clued that together you meant Layle since yeah he fits that

Regarding success it's hard to say but reviewers definitely didn't help. I also think people just at the time were wary of Wii Waggle and really put off by a motion control game, that it's hard to put much attention to where the game actually shines.

But again with Bearers I will always say it's isn't a game for everyone to play and you do have to be able to tolerate missteps that are very much there, but if you can it's a pretty fun little sandbox game with a cool and refreshing cast of characters in a really laid-back comfy world with a great OST.

MLaaK is pretty fun an addicting, then while I'm not the biggest fan of Dark Lord's gameplay (particularly in the beginning it can feel really slow for a tower defence game), it does on the other hand have some real fun dialogue in-between chapters with Mira, her minions, and those she encounters.

Yeah I think enough time has passed from the Wii era that I am much more amenable to bits of waggle these days. And the motion control is honestly fine in this, I haven't had a problem with it so far (though I am using Motion Control+, don't know if that does anything).

Unfortunately My Life as a King+Darklord are both impossible to buy now :(

Well today wound up being mostly minigames. Seriously, there are a lot of minigames! Hide and Seek, Garden Arranging, Chocobo Racing, Monkey Wallet Thieves (this was so annoying), Grape Picking, Oxen Herding, Petal Collecting, Kickerbaul, Laser Scarecrows, and probably more I'm forgetting. I didn't plan on doing all of these, but I took a wrong turn somewhere on my way to Bridge Town and *shrug*. The map is truly useless, it was fine when I thought this game was linear but it's much more open than I had first realised!

New complaint: Either let me talk to people/interact with things while riding a chocobo or make it so they don't run away the second you climb off them!

Didn't make much plot progress. Layle is more nihilistic than I thought, Onion Cid is a great (insulting) nickname, and Layle laughing uproariously at Althena would be a great reaction to another character's elimination in SMFFFC. Next stop: tracking the Yuke to the Ravine/Snowfields!

Hmmmm I can't remember having too much trouble with map, yeah the given one only really tells you x area connects to y area, but there's not too much.

I do remember though forgetting which direction was which at the chocobo race track though (which side was the kingdom, which is the ravine), but not for too long. It has been over a decade though! *edit* oh right you on your way from Alfitaria to Bridge Town sounds like the mix-up I remember.

Yeah Layle definitely has a world view shaped from being a Bearer with a world that fears him. It's not really a strong resentment as much as a resignation to the harshness of the society though.

One thing I really love in Opera Omnia's lost chapter for Keiss, is Keiss noticing how much happier Layle seems to be in a world with other strong adventurers who don't have their world's fear of Crystal Bearers.

An SMFFFC-less day is a good day for an update!

Well that didn't take long. Layle's ex-'mentor' and current enemy Blaze shows up (guess his element) and gets thoroughly Layle'd. The boss music is good. I liked going through the monastery inadvertently uncovering all these other characters lol.

Trivial updates today: there is a TURTLE in Red Leaf Station. The Iron Giant lore has reference to the Phantom Train. There are some frogs that sing. Tonberries are uncharacteristically speedy in this game, but thankfully frail. Also why do the fishermen always catch 0 fish, I don't get that.

Belle pops in to steal the scene for a min (I am really liking her) but today is all about Amidatelion. Well, also Jegran, who finally lives up to his character design and starts acting like a full on villain. His bearer reveal is a really cool scene. Bad way to go for Blaze, with your murderer already talking to you like your existence is past tense! I remembered the cliff falling scene from some Laylevid last year, it is still funny in context.

Ami takes us back to the Yukes' world and gives us some more info. Nothing out of the ordinary really, some good development for the Ami/Layle relationship but the plot is just standard end of the world/restoring order stuff for now. Ami's design and the 'stabilising existence' thing is cool. I really like how Layle responds to all of the plot developments, not exactly shrugging them off but not fully buying into them either. Like he doesn't believe/doesn't want to believe in deeper meanings to his own existence, but that doesn't mean he's about to let the Yukes just perish. He's a great lead.

Thankfully they somehow come up with an ingame lore-appropriate reason for revisiting old minigames. This should be very handy later on. There is also a moogle named Layle, I wonder is this the Layle we are saving in SMFFFC :O

We are to head back to see Althea/Cid, but I wander around and kill a Hydra instead. Man I really like how this world has opened up, you can pretty much bounce around wherever you want whenever you want. And now the trainline is running properly it's easier to get places too. Fun stuff!

If you didn't notice, you took Blaze's chocobo during the early chocobo minigame Getaway (escaping from Alfitaria)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7OhinRR_I8

Intro of this video. and yes ofc he was also the snoop in the changing rooms, hence the flames Layle was blamed for. And the hooded figure caught by Jegran in the train looking for Layle.

Not that he's that significant of a character since well, what you found out moments later... but yeah some backstory on Layle for a partner before Keiss. Even among other Bearers, Layle doesn't have much of a bond with them, as he understands their nature as outcasts in society that may not be inclined to help. As he told Althea before you set out for the monastery! (before that big laugh in her face)

https://streamable.com/lnv99u

So yeah I like thinking back to these comments on Bearers after meeting Blaze at least. I also like how his comments totally apply to how he sees himself, a mercenary taking jobs to get by and not particularly any sort of do-gooder, even though we clearly can tell there's more there to him. Really goes well with your comments about Layle accepting to help Ami.

Ah good shout with Blaze's chocobo, I would have never seen that! Cool detail. And yeah it does help deepen the player's understanding of Layle.

Just popped on quickly today, wasn't gonna post an update but after poor Layle's elim I thought I should. The highlight was an incredibly dapper bow tie Layle dancing through to the princess. I really liked this sequence! Cool music, Althea testing both Jegran and Layle with the same question, Layle just being utterly charming throughout, and really nice cinematography (? is it called that when it's in a game idk). Very fun. I like that Jegran is just openly an asshole to Althea too lol.

And of course the King is crystal, and Jegran has some plan to awaken the Alexis and doesn't seem concerned about the Yuke. Also really liked that the Lilty have their own version of the war where the Yuke were about to nuke them out of existence. Of course we'll see how true that turns out to be but it's some nice layering to the issue, of course they both think of themselves as heroes. Althea is growing on me.

At this point I should note Althea's voice actress also did Cissnei in Crisis Core!

Also I totally didn't notice Blaze in my initial watchthrough either, it was funny on a rewatch to see him popping up in a bunch of places (you can even see him in the crowd during Belle's butt beach battle)

Jegran reveal vs. Blaze is the only non-Belle moment in my top 5 fav moments, the way the epic music kicks in after the reveal, loved it. Layle crashing the party was also pretty great... but it's at this point the "movie" is more lacking, but I imagine like you said earlier that lots of mini-game and open world opportunities abound to keep things interesting.

If they ever do a Switch re-release I'd definitely play it too!

I went back to do all 3, this is my fav one for sure.

Layle and Belle have a nice scene at the Guild after the Selkie are kidnapped, then it's off to the Aerial Prison to break them out. This is a pretty odd section, it's framed like a stealth/break-in mission but there's obviously no stealth mechanics at play so we're just kinda running around lol, the guards can't do anything to Layle. The Crystal Armour fight is rough until I figure out what to actually do there, thankfully we only need to kill one. Yes I'm sure there's a medal for killing them all but... oh well!

Jegran decides to stop arbitrarily hiding his powers (idk why he didn't use them on Ami+Layle back in their last confrontation then!), and after a bunch of scenes we manage to escape with most of (>_>) the Selkies, who took like 10 minutes to decide to climb a rope. I lol'd at Goldenrod bowing in gratitude after Jegran thanks them for their timing. Oh and Vaigali died. RIP.

Ami and Layle head to the Subterranean Ruins and are still arguing about whether to resurrect the Yuke Crystal or not (I like that this isn't clear cut), then Jegran suddenly appears (he's never been this quiet before!) and kills Ami, then Layle dispatches of him remarkably promptly. I didn't see this one coming at all, it's a pretty good death. RIP! I guess it was too quick to have them open a portal and switch bodies again?

Honestly I'm a bit taken aback at how fast the plot's been moving today, it doesn't feel quite as authentic or natural as it did before. Characters are being a bit silly or brash just for the sake of moving things forward, and before we know it we've lost two people and then Jegran is outed as a Bearer and arrested within 5 minutes without so much as a boss fight! I go to progress to the next bit but Keiss (who survived being handled by a furious Jegran because... plot armour I guess) mentions this being the "finale". I hadn't even considered that we might be at the end of the game, but that does explain the rushed plot a bit.

Is this really the last bit already? I guess I've been spoiled by lengthy FFs before! I have to agree with Martin, things have been a bit lacking since the ballroom dance. But we'll see where things go from here. I'm intrigued how it'll all work out with Althea and the Yukes, and I'm sure we'll have a boss fight with Jegran. He'd better have something up his sleeve at least, it'd be a real waste of potential if he doesn't!

Hm this post is a bit too down on the game, but I'm still having fun. Cactuars are great of course.

Yeah I was going to mention with the ball scene you're approaching the end but wasn't sure if I should. It's definitely a short storied game which I hoped I got across in my Bearers chatter over the years (plus my movie being 3 hours edited down from a 5 hour run).

I really liked Ami and I like that this settles Layle's decision to help as a favour he owes them now. Opera Omnia has a Lost Chapter for Ami as well and it's really nice with Layle and Ami meeting with Ami asking if he succeeded in the resurrection and talking about their owed debts.

I knew it wouldn't be full RPG length but for some reason I didn't expect the end to come up so quickly! Yeah I like Ami, really didn't expect them to get offed like that.

Probably beating this tomorrow then I guess! Though I may spend a while messing around with minigames/battles etc first.

And yes there is a medal for killing the Crystal Armour... in a specially way, that's also kinda tricky to understand exactly what it wants. Maybe it's also bugged but not to the degree of the glitched medal for Pollen Bearer. You can face the Crystal Armours in the prison too but I forget if you can actually get the medal there or if it has to be in the sky prison

hype for ending Layle's hilarious final battle feats

oh right another fun fact, if you do well in the early chocobo Getaway mission, a Crystal Armour shows up at the end you have to defeat for a medal

*edit*... man there's actually a lot of different Crystal Armor medals

That looks... daunting. I didn't even know all of the medals could be gold, I thought some were just naturally bronze or silver depending on difficulty. Oh boy. And even the max status on the menu is ridiculous!

Well I'm gonna keep playing but I very much doubt I'll get to spreadsheet level!

After boarding the shuttle we are treated to several cutscenes. Jegran partially redeems himself for being caught so easily by having a pretty cool monologue in front of the King's corpse. Althea going in there by herself is incredibly silly, but I guess none of her guards would've done anything anyway. We find out Althea is a Bearer herself, which should be interesting but doesn't really amount to all that much in the ensuing battles. Layle declaring he's not there for the princess is good, though he obv saves her anyway.

After declaring his God status (a requirement of any FF villain), Jegran kinda merges with the ship and Layle goes along for the ride by getting a cool surfboard and a new outfit. It's pretty great tbh, Layle is a straight up superhero at this point lol. The battles aren't so bad, the last two phases are annoying but once I realise I need to destroy the arm ASAP I get through them without much trouble. The resurrection spell works, Ami's preparations somehow stop the Lilty crystal being destroyed, and everybody lives happily ever after, the four tribes all safe and equal. (Except the Selkies and Clavat, who still don't get kingdoms of their own.) There's a nice sequence showing us the entire world we've been through, ending with the reveal that Layle is alive and still with his bearer powers.

I'm skipping quite a bit there, but that's pretty much the gist. The only people reading this have already played/watched it so *shrug* lol. I'll go into details about the game over the coming days, but in general I've had a lot of fun with it. If there's one thing Crystal Bearers excels at it is vibes. Zooming around, bantering with Belle, not having a clue what we'll be doing or where we'll be going next, it was just really fun being in the world.

But I want to talk about the overall plot, because I feel like there are a bunch of really solid story hooks thrown into this game that don't get fleshed out or given room to breathe, including several at the very end: Althea is a crystal bearer, the Lilty King wasn't such a great dude maybe, Jegran wasn't born with his powers but had them created by accident during experiments with the crystals (which seems like a pretty massive deal!), you can just create a new Crystal Principle?! Yeah they framed that one like it was a big deal, but overall they didn't really get into the weeds about what the principle was, or the purpose of the bearers. Were Jegran's powers an accident and the others were given theirs by the gods or whatever to stop him? IDK. The ethical implications of the Yukes wanting to eradicate the Lilty (and of Ami bringing their crystal back) were great in theory but everything just worked out fine anyway. Layle keeps his powers at the end, so does that mean Jegran survived too?

There's just a lot of stuff that I wish they'd gone into more, and I guess that gets to my primary problem with the game being that it just wasn't long enough!

As for characters, Layle is terrific. Belle works so much better than she should, idk if it's the VA or what but things are always more fun when she's around. Ami is good but I wish we'd had more time to expand on their friendship with Layle before the death. The others are mostly fine (though Keiss brings nothing to the table imo).

Jegran is like, halfway to being a very interesting villain, but because of the rushed plot I think he suffers somewhat. I thought he really believed he was serving his kingdom, and many of his actions imply he's being honest there, but then he just wants to become a god and... do some bad stuff I guess. Also as I've said before his power levels decrease rapidly so he can get caught, then go back up again. Meh. Althea has a few moments of shrewdness where I started to get interested in her as a character, but by the finale she's just tossed aside and becomes pretty generic. If this were a regular FF she would be a white mage for sure. I think her key problem is just that she's a pretty lowkey and passive person in the middle of a super dynamic high energy cast, so she doesn't really mix in with the others so well.

More will come to me as I think on the game, and I'll post more tomorrow. My plans now are to just go around everywhere discovering what else there is to discover. I got a newspaper article that might as well have the headline OPTIONAL SUPERBOSS HERE, right down to including the name Omega. So that should be fun.

Also Tonberry Queen has a chainsaw. I didn't know where to put this but I had to note it somewhere.

yeahhh Althea's power is kind of a twist without much real use, let alone being so late. One thing you might forget though, when Ami was gathering crystal idols she couldn't use her summoning on Althea for some reason - and well that's the reason,

I love Silver Surfer Layle, it's the perfect amount of ridiculous and well who doesn't love Silver Surfer.

Also really like Belle going out searching for Layle in the ending (obviously stealing a ship because Belle).

Keiss underrated! I mean yeah he's not Ami/Belle/Amidatelion but he's a great partner to Layle, someone with some more pragmatism and goals, working his way through the bureaucracy - albeit ultimately going back to the Selkie Guild to fill in for Vaigali, but at the same time he would definitely be a great leader to work with the new peace between tribes... I dunno what Clavat's gonna do *shrug*. But also the LC from Opera Omnia might've legitimately made me appreciate him even more for his understanding of Layle and as a great partner. Maybe I'll record those Keiss LC and Act 3 Chapter 3 cutscenes, as well as Ami's LC which had some good Ami/Layle post-Resurrection dialogue.

Also Act 3 Chapter 5 comes with Jegran, I haven't played the JP version which is out so I'll see more about it with the Global release in January. I agree he's not given the greatest attention throughout, but his power reveal was legitimately one of the better scenes... if only the god damn Sky Prison minigame wasn't pure torture. I liked the madness of using his power to crystalize people to fuel his ambitions.

I'm glad there's lots of TCB love in Opera Omnia! But I have sworn off F2Ps and gachas so I won't be experiencing it firsthand :(

One realisation I had- is Blaze the only proper boss fight in this game? As in, the only one that's not a minigame? Weird. I did expect a proper 1v1 Layle v Jegran fight at the end.

I've been getting some more medals, but I'm only up to 56%. I'll keep going til I stop having fun and I've discovered all the cool stuff there is to see, there's still plenty of stuff I'm meaning to do yet. There's one location I haven't even discovered! But I doubt I will be trying to 100% the game given some of these ridiculous minigames. And a lot of medals appear to be luck-based drops, I have just boosted my luck stat to 4 so hopefully that helps.

My mind went to Demon Wall but that's optional to beat since he just pushes you down if you fail. Bahamut was technically a minigame but I'd consider it a boss fight.... I forget if the Blaze fight is also listed under the minigames back in the Yuke World minigame selector, I think he is too.

Other than that I just think of the bigger unique field enemies like Malboro and Hydra. I suppose Crystal Armor could count as a story boss because of the Aerial Prison fight.

There was also one odd moment when the Alfitarian guard had Layle surrounded at Cid's, the cutscene ends with him heading out to confront them, and then it switches to gameplay and they're just like all knocked down lol.

New area I take it is the farm area with the train tracks. I'm glad you're enjoying doing some extra stuff since yeah that's totally something I just enjoyed doing at my own pace - as I tweeted about my medals I only actually did get around to 100% Gold Medals a decade after release after all. Less out-of-the-way stuff like getting all the miasma's always nice.

Some 'o them luck-based drops are accessory crafting materials so getting an accessory completion can be a bit of a task... I could always share that part of my excel sheet!

I'mma go record some of those Omnia scenes I thinks

Yes this was really weird! They were clearly setting up some kind of event/fight and then it's already over lol.

I had already been to Harvest Prairie (still haven't figured out all the tricks to the Iron Giant), turns out the missing area for me was the Sea Grotto under the geyser at the coast. I'm definitely getting way more drops now with a higher luck stat. Went back and did the Demon Wall too a bunch of times which gave some very nice items. Still only like 61% medals and a bunch of them are bronze >_> But I'm not running out of things to do so I'll keep trucking along! Wish there was a way to reset the monster spawns other than just waiting it out.

^I did see that when I started NG+ just to see if it did anything. Weird scene to put in honestly, not like it adds anything >_>

Up to 85% medals! Slowing down now, I've started looking at the relevant FAQ. I think I've got all the Miasma streams done. There's a few medals about fishing Sahagin/Sand Sharks and something with a Bloomer that I can't seem to get triggered. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I've been flipping Sahagins out of and onto land a bunch but I'm not getting the medal. Also I've stopped the guy kicking the turtle but I'm not getting a reward from that either.

The other weird one is the ghost sightings- I got the first sighting ages ago but only got the second letter today, and apparently there's 7 of them. Are they just really rare letters or do I need to do something to trigger them? Not that it's important, unless there's a cool reward/scene at the end of the quest!

Aside from that it's mainly rare drops and annoying minigame medals left, I'm probably close to stopping soon. Still having fun though! (I assume Leo and Chime are just references to other CC games and nothing more than that)

Bloomers is the one I mentioned before that... yeah there's a real problem getting the medal to trigger. I did it but it took a lot of tries and I can't even say for sure what was the correct method for getting it. Don't really remember Sahagin issues, I suppose there might be a difference between pulling them out of the water or just side-throwing them.

Ghosts yeah just gotta keep pulling out letters until you get the next mission. I don't really remember anything special from finishing it.

King Leo and Chime are from My Life as a King yeah, neat easter eggs (you can even dance with Chime during the ballroom minigame!). There is though a medal about tossing 'em aside whenever you find them and then after 30 encounters of each they appear in Costa F**uita for you to toss them into a portal, as you can imagine, sending them back to their game.

Up to 91%, you were right about the Sahagins! I had been grabbing them instead of just side throwing. I also figured out the turtle and it seems a great way to farm money, I can just get 1k Gil every 10 seconds or so by tossing the dude then picking up the reward. Not sure if there's a limit to the cash but that's cool!

I think I'm about done now, there's a few more medals I could probably get but the fun is fading a lil and I don't want this to become a chore. Some of those minigame ones seem reaaally unpleasant so I don't want to get close enough that I tempt myself into going for 100% lol.

Overall, as much as I enjoyed playing this game I don't think I could reasonably argue with the 7/10 scores that came from many. It's a blast to play but the combat is overly simple and the whole experience is over too soon. The sad thing is that the rough edges could all easily be smoothed out in a sequel to create a truly amazing experience, but the chances of that happening seem near impossible unless GMUN somehow becomes the CEO of Square-Enix. Regardless I had a great time playing this game, thanks for putting it onto my radar as I'd never heard of it before. Hopefully we'll see Layle, Belle and the gang again in a proper (non-gacha) game in the future.

I - II - III - IV - (TAY) - V - VI - VII - (VIIR - DoC - CC) - VIII - IX - X - (X-2) - XII - (RW) - XIII - (XIII-2 - LR) - XV - Tactics - The Crystal Bearers

Next up: I have absolutely no idea. I've gone through all the games I was really wanting to play. Should I go to the beginning with 1-3, try out XV, torture myself with Dirge of Cerberus or Tactics Advance, try some different spinoffs, dedicate 5 years of my life to XIV or just leave it here? IDK. I'll run a poll at some point to see what people think, but I'll likely give the series a break for a little bit to let me cool down. Thanks as always for the comments!

2020 Martin 2021 andy 2022 ???.... WHO WILL IT BE

Glad you enjoyed it! and yeah I feel the same way that as much as I love and shill the game I can't argue with the low scores, or easily recommend it as a game everyone should try because there's certainly a lot of jank and that's even if you can be cool with waggle in the first place. Nevertheless I still do honestly enjoy playing it and as I say if you get get passed the flaws there's a refreshing cast of characters in an incredibly chill overworld to experience (supported by its fabulous OST field themes).

Omnia Bearers content jic interest...

short Layle intro (Act 1 Chapter 7, two key scenes 3:41 long)
https://streamable.com/20tnnp

Keiss Lost Chapter (18:00 long)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EnUyvuxXwoWiZp9aad5RrjHdw5OJqX49/view

Amidatelion Lost Chapter (18:50 long)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MUinCM3G5WfgKkIUrflqQp0jsbSaMBZr/view

Layle's actually pretty prominent throughout Act 1 and decently remaining through Act 2's expansion. Act 3 the whole Bearers crew actually part of the FF13 chapter (Act 3 Chapter 3) and as I mentioned before A3C5 is gonna spotlight Jegran but that's 3-4 months away! Layle also pops up fairly often through Lost Chapters, definitely whenever there's another FFCC addition.

Keiss really tried to tail the Emperor from 5 feet away, lol. He does seem more interesting in this than TCB proper. Thanks a lot for putting those together! It's enjoyable watching all these people interact.

I have to assume that this is most players' first impression of TCB, I wonder what it's like for them... And I'm glad there's some postgame clarifications here as it's likely the closest we'll get to a sequel :( Yikes at the casually thrown in fact that Amidatelion may well die again when they save this world though >_> And lol at the summoners' reactions to Ami's hax summon powers.

Very curious what Jegran's interactions will be like!

And who is this 'Rikku' Lulu was mentioning, I wonder???
