He said that that's kinda how the alpha does them in the wild. Kicks their ass so they know to never do that thing again

But I don't like spanking animals.. I don't wanna do that. I give them a little pop sometimes when they do something REAL bad like chew up furniture or try to eat something they shouldn't (I deal with dropped pills a lot for instance) but that's about it. And I don't do it hard at all. Just a kind of "HEY PAY ATTENTION FURRY ASSHOLE" thing

Dogs dont get spanked in the wild. What a weird thing to say. Also you dont need to hit them to assert dominance, but that usually does it.

Trainers say positive reinforcement works better for training dogs than negative reinforcement. I didnt have the patience though. I used both. My dog is generally well behaved.

The alpha WILL nip at them, in the hind quarter.
They even made up a phrase for it... "Nip it in the butt"

Honeslty, spanking worked on our dog. But for us, we had tried literally everything else first. Only as a last resort.

She's not, at the moment. Nothing triggered me to make this, I just remembered him saying it

Your vet has no idea what they're talking about. You should not be using teaching methods that associate you with violence, at least not if you want your dog to be happy and anxiety free.

Go buy a book on dog training if you don't know what your doing. I've trained multiple rescue dogs with trauma histories and I certainly did not need to hit them to teach them correct behaviors.

When I took care of tiny dogs I would just lift them high in the air and stare at them when they ignored me when I told them to stop doing something (barking usually). That gets their attention and helps them realize their position in the general scheme of things.

You tiny. Stop barking.

I have a sound I make at them that basically means BAD, NO

It would be impossible to translate that sound into text

Sometimes I HAVE to pop my dog to get his attention, esp if he's about to do something really bad.

He's not wrong, but I'm not a fan of swatting dogs. We're using a shock collar on our puppy and she responded like immediately. It has a beep or a shock (it can be adjusted from a buzz to a full on shock, hers is at about 15%), and you beep it before the shock. All it took was a couple zaps and she figured out the beep is a warning so she needs to stop doing what she's doing. Which is usually biting us too hard or jumping on my dog or not coming when called.

After one or two initial zaps you're using the beep to stop bad behavior, not the shock. Once she figures everything out we'll take it off though

Good man

this. i see people sometimes hit the dog. it doesn't seem to work as well as trying to train it in that way.
only makes the dog fear the owner and maybe people in general.

there was only 2 times in my dog's puppyhood that she tore up the carpet in a small area (she was left alone for 4 hours). had to forgive her both times. carpet can be repaired.
