Only if the job was paying six figures.

Im actually taking a vacation in Northern California and South Oregon and am in Sacramento right now.

Getting a house here comparable to my one in Phoenix would be like twice the price.

For the right amount of money sure but would have to be a lot to offset the increase in cost of living.

My brother lived in the suburbs near LA for 3 years, then moved to Arkansas and was actually happy about the change. He said he got sick of all the traffic, how expensive everything was, and how he had to evacuate his house every year and wonder if it would burn down. Yeah, not going to rush into a situation like that.

Never. Hawaii has beautiful beaches and weather, tons of hot Asian chicks, and the two most important things: Nice people, and the best water in the nation. I can't relate to all those stories about corrupt LAPD or NYPD officers because all I've known my entire life were smiling guys who would give a friendly hello whenever I passed them on the street. And the water quality is a HUGE factor. When I visit my aunt in California it's such a big wake up call immediately after I take a sip of that chlorinated tap water. I always forget how good we have it here with rain water that's filtered for 25 years through volcanic rock before it even reaches the purification plant.

Both places are expensive as fuck. But at least Hawaii isn't hit with earthquakes and wildfires nearly as often too.

I'm moving out of California next week! All my stuff leaves tomorrow and I'm on CE taking a break from last minute packing.

Pasted from another topic:
Our 2 bedroom 780square foot apartment is going to go from 2k per month to 3k per month.
We're moving to Indiana where we'll have a 3 bedroom 2000 square foot house for 1200 per month. Our entire cost of living (so all bills combined) I estimate will be around 1800 per month.
Since I work from home it'll be much easier to save up to buy a house one day.

Depends on the area. The beaches south of LAX run about $2k per month for a 1 bedroom apartment these days. However, places in the middle of nowhere, like Bakersfield, you can get a house for that same $2k per month.

California is a huge state with two massive and expensive cities, but also the worst homeless problem (because other cities bus their homeless here) and lots of ghettos. Because of this huge decide you can certainly find cheap places, but they might not be safe or useful for you depending on where you work.

San Diego is the only place in California ive been id live. id probably do malibu, santa barbara, etc. in southern cal, but never visited. I'd need $200-300k a year to afford a place id like as much as my seattle house. I really like northern california but climate change is fucking it up.

Bakersfield is interesting. Decent sized city and cheap. One of the few exceptions to the expensive rule. But literally cannot think of another place on California

It's hot and too far (2-3 hour drive) away from LA or any other major city so unless you work in Bakersfield it isn't really worth it unfortunately. We were considering moving there but it just wasn't worth it for us.

There are plenty of jobs in central valley and its all pretty much cheap living. Modesto, Fresno, Bakersfield, Visalia. Fresno is probably the best one of all those places, its got plenty of things to do and its cheap.

There are plenty of cities like that. I don't know southern california as in-depth as I do northern but there are neighborhoods in Santa Rosa and Napa that are affordable and not ghetto. There are neighborhoods in Sac area like Rancho cordova, natomas, fair oaks, citrus heights, Elk grove. Fairfield and vacaville are also reasonably priced and close drives to SF and Sacramento. Concord, Antioch. Tracy. If you actually want to live in the bay, hayward, union city. Milpitis might be pushing it but its worth a look, you could probably find a hidden gem there if you're patient.

At most places you choose, you can do weekend/day trips to SF, yosemitte, tahoe, santa cruz beaches, etc. THATS why california is expensive. Weather is always beautiful and theres so many amazing things to do outdoors. And thats not even mentioning the things to do in the city - food selection, particularly ethnic food, will blow away anything you will find in some bumfuck state where its filled with rednecks and hillbillies.

And I know california is ranked pretty low in schools, but tbh if you're anywhere in the bay or sac, the schools are pretty good. And beyond HS the higher level of education is one of the best you'll find anywhere. There are some amazing community colleges. The cal state university system is great, the university of california system is outstanding, one of the best in the world - berkley and UCLA are elite universities, not to mention stanford, cal tech, UCSF.
