But what if we're in a present that was changed?

For example think of someone in your life right now. What if originally they were in a car crash and someone from the future came back and changed history and now they're alive?

Or what if someone you were supposed to meet and become good friends with, you actually have never met because some butterfly effect changed history?

It's the same thing, just looking at it from a different perspective

We often see it from the tv/movie perspective of how it unfolds with the before/after

But I'm just saying look at it from the perspective of anything that could have already been changed but we just don't know that it did because history changed for us

Depends on the mechanic. Branching timelines would mean no change. Singular timeline would basically just kill everyone beyond the change and replace them with a new version.

Travelers did this kind of thing. Then the future (which we barely see) starts doing more and more because things are changing in unintended ways.
