Good thing the guards nearest to the cell are the weakest and least well-equipped guards in the prison, so when the hero breaks out with no weapons, they won't meet too much resistance

Thank god the evil empire hell bent on killing everyone in their path has enough respect for the law to not just execute our heroes right away while they're helpless

How generous of them to strip the protagonist down only at the last second, leaving them no choice except to put all your belongings in a very close, unsecured chest because the evil king doesn't pay them enough to walk to the other side of the castle.

It's a good thing we have that one caveman character who fights with her fists, and the enemies are all conveniently weaker than what we are used to at this time.

I was going to say, Chrono Trigger *almost* does it right in the sense that you actually had to sneak around effectively to find the *one* unguarded chest to obtain somebody's gear, otherwise you would get repeatedly caught and thrown back in your cell, starting the whole escape all over again because you literally can't fight.

Of course, if you had Ayla in your party, it renders that issue moot and you can just start smacking fools left and right from the moment they spot you. And as mentioned, they're conveniently weak on top of that.

No, that was the 90s. It's all long boring "stealth" sequences now.
