that's actually not all that much, all things considered. that's what? 5% of the budget? not nothing, but not a huge difference maker, either. or, a $500 stimmy to every american (600 to adult americans)?

whew, that's quite the impressive leap. *golfclaps* doubly so when you didn't even respond to post 5. which was a sentiment i also held for a while, but stats like these show that going after the dodges don't provide all that meaningful of a revenue stream. that doesn't in any way shape or form imply the words "oh, well, then i guess they can just keep it", like you just tried to suggest. clown at someone else.

WTF 5% is an insane Amount. Also it's much larger than 5%.

thinking a little more, if that 1% is literal, it's definitely possible that the next 9 or even 24 percent are also underpaying, and it'll add up to a lot more. but i'm not jumping through the hoops necessary to get through the nyt paywall to confirm.

Yeah, okay. Didn't actually read it until just now.

However, the article the article links to, makes it fairly clear that the root issue is convoluted tax code, which hiring a shitton of revenuers is not going to solve. If anything, it'll just benefit the tax lawyers who know the laws better than the enforcers.
https://home.treasury.gov/news/featured-stories/the-case-for-a-robust-attack-on-the-tax-gap

Literally right here at the bottom:
Overall, the Administrations compliance initiatives are guided by a singular objectivebringing about an end to a two-tiered tax system, where ordinary Americans comply with their tax obligations, but many high-end taxpayers do not. Giving the IRS the information and resources that it needs will generate substantial revenue. But even more importantly, these reforms will create a more equitable, efficient tax system.
You fuckers have a lock on all three legislative bodies for about another year. Stop dicking around and de-tangle the fucking tax code.
