your point is why does anything matter since we'll still have to wear masks and social distance for the rest of our lives. i'm just saying that's not the case, there's going to be a time where we'll ditch the masks, stop social distancing, stop the lockdowns because covid is basically going to be a non factor due to vaccines and natural infection.

Yeah, it was never going to be. Just a matter of lasting it out until it decides it doesn't want to kill everyone. Vaccine to hold out until proper treatment so people don't end up in the ICU all the time, or until the virus decides the best way to live it to not kill everyone and becomes less severe. Then regular vaccination to keep it down. Best we'll accomplish prob.

No my point is asking when will that be and why are we not already preparing for that we should be calling this in classifying this as a code red and them if this isn't just some bullshit hand in it like everybody is claiming it's way more serious than that it's an entirely different word with a different definition it almost is like the media is misleading us ... TC, through your words and tone, I feel like you're confused on the term "endemic" it simply means a given disease is just commonly found in a region, not that it's going to result in the end of the world lol.

I don't think most people who have been saying that we'll "just have to live with it" truly appreciate what this could mean. I've heard it said so many times in such a nonchalant way and it is soooo much worse than that. SARS literally mutated itself to death. Delta is bad, but that doesn't mean COVID will keep mutating into more powerful forms until it kills us all. The vaccines are still largely effective against Delta, and we'll develop a natural immunity over time as well. --- Join the club. I'm not sure you fully understood my post. I never said anything about it killing us all. I specifically mentioned that it doesn't matter that it isn't killing us all. The data up to 8/29 shows that the Mu variant is still being crowded out by the Delta variant. So hopefully that trend continues and the Mu variant won't become a new dominant strain.

Definitely great news. Where are you getting this data? Definitely want to keep an eye on it myself. Nextstrain.org is where they track all of the identified covid-19 variants. There have been over 2000 variants so far. Delta is the current dominant strain globally. In South America, it's a mix of Delta and Gamma, and Mu is getting crowded out by those two. In North America, Delta is the only dominant strain. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Delta got as big as it is by being faster than the existing strains, so I guess Mu is slower if it has a hard time competing with Delta?

This virus, or a descendant thereof, is going to be endemic. That doesn't mean it's always going to be the super-serious illness it is today, as the population in general builds up more immunity to it. Just look at HCoV-OC43.

Yes, at least as of 8/29 when the chart ends. I'm not sure how often it updates. I found out about this site because the company I work for is also in the healthcare industry and we have all-hands calls where some of our leads in those departments talk about covid and other health issues here and there. And the original strain isn't dead. It's just a very small percentage of infections right now because the Delta variant is crowding all of the others out at the moment. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
