Looking back this was the last year we got a smorgasbord of triple A titles (or possibly 2013 - although that year was very top-loaded), it's quite remarkable that all these series released games in the same year. Due to longer game development times I don't think we'll see a year again of this consistency across the board.

Toss up between Portal 2 and Arkham City, but it's got to be Portal 2 - replayed it recently and it's still just as good as it was in 2011, Arkham City's fighting mechanics and open world have aged slightly.

Oh man I want to vote for LBP2 just because it was such a huge leap from the first one.

But Portal 2 takes it for me. HM to Arkham and Dark Souls

I should vote for Dark Souls since I think it's technically the better game, but Skyrim had so much more replay value for me, and plus it had the whole modding scene to engage in. So for me it's Skyrim.

I liked "Bastion", "Portal 2" and "El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron" as some of my fave games from 2011.

Other, absolutely.

Dragon Age 2 came out in 2011. And no matter how often people may shit on that game, I still enjoyed it more than pretty much anything else on that entire list. And also think most of the people who complain about DA2 are stupid.

Saints Row 3 (or "The Third" if you want to be pedantic) came out that year as well, and that's right up near the top of the list for me (definitely better than every other game listed in the poll by far). The first time I played it, about an hour or so in, I said out loud "This might be the greatest video game I've ever played." So there's that.

On a technicality, Minecraft's full release version was 2011 as well, and if that counts, it would be right up there near the top, considering how much I've played it, and the impact it had on gaming in general over the last decade.

Also honorable mention goes to Deus Ex: Human Revolution - it wasn't as good as it could have been (and it's definitely not the best Deus Ex game), but it was better than it had any right to be, and I'd still rank it above pretty much everything else in the poll.

There's a chance I might be forgetting other games from 2011 as well, because I don't usually remember when games are released (I had to look up a list of 2011 releases just to get most of the ones I mentioned, though I actually did remember DA2 on my own).

definitely Dark Souls. at the time was playing Skyrim, and everyone was talking about Dark Souls but I didn't know anything about it. little did I know how good it was, but I wouldn't find out for another 4 years. (really? only 4 years. would have thought it was longer than that.)
