Was talking to a former colleague here. He's an older guy, republican, but anti-trump and actually becoming more of a democrat lately. He's on the "inside" with alot of the older and middle age guys at work. Basically told me stories and quotes from every single one of em, exposing how racist pretty much everyone is.

I'm a young guy from california. I'm a simple, old-school type of guy so I get along with all these guys, but at the end of the day I clearly am not "one of them".

It just blows my mind away that literally every single one of these guys above the age of 50 have done and said racist things. This whole environment in the south is such garbage. I don't get how moderate or leftist can live here long-term.

My buddy transferred from LA to Florida for work (white collar, in an office). He tells me that since he's from southern California and doesn't own any guns, there was an automatic initial assumption that he was gay lol

My head office is in a fairly small town and some of the people who work in it are racist in that sort of fairly benign, small town way.

Like the other week when someone asked me "Is she chinese?" (about a client who has a audibly foreign accent) and I said "she's vietnamese" and she went "I thought so". lol wut

I'm sure some of them have less benign views, mind you

There are lots of people I've been around here in the south that are not only pretty dang racist, but lack the self-awareness to even realize it.

One of my previous jobs was the worst. It seemed like most everyone I worked with was almost always racist and/or homophobic and they were allowed to express these awful opinions while people in management (who would often hear the things being said) didn't give a fuck.

One of my managers was a Filipino woman that some of my co-workers would call "Ling Ling" behind her back. That always bugged and I called them out on it pretty often. The thing that blew my mind is that these people genuinely didn't see the problem with that and I had to break it down to them exactly why that's a messed up, racist thing to say. God, I hated that job. Everyone was a fucking moron. Good riddance.
