Buy because fuck a landlord, fuck their rules, and fuck not having complete freedom in the choices I make regarding my home.

I bought a house 15 or so years ago and it'll be paid off this week. My brother's rent payment will cover the utilities and property taxes so I could quit my job and travel for a couple years.

When you rent you're in that shit for life. It'll only go up.

I'm starting to think people are trolling when they post stuff like this. I've never had a landlord who didn't hike up the rent $50-$100 every year on the year, or who fixed anything without trying to pass the cost onto me.

Thank God I'm a homeowner now.

Yeah but rent payments never go away. Eventually a mortgage is paid for which would be a great help especially during retirement.

The most expensive thing I ever had to do to my house was have the roof replaced for $7500. Other minor shit I can fix myself.

Yeah plus mortgage is almost always fixed rate, rent goes up sometimes annually. Regardless of wage stagnation. Your mortgage will only go up a very finite amount with increased property taxes and some states let you basically subtract x amount of dollars from the value of your home, lowering property taxes (Florida, my state has homestead)

I just drove by my rent house of like 8 years.

The new buyers seem to be doing exactly what I wanted to do with it. Gut it, redo flooring ect along with getting rid of some trees and bushes.

I bet it's going to cost them $20k atleast.

I now live rent free on paid off land.

Buy. I'm buying a home soon. It makes sense. I should have it paid off in a few years and will be saving money. I also have the option of renting out the extra rooms. If I find someone I want to start a family with, I'll have space ready.

Buying is the way to go, if you are worried about maintenance and repairs, get a condo.

Renting is short term while buying is long term. Just depend on your situation and how long you plan to stay as well as how much money you have that you can put down.

it's either trolling or rent control or something. me and everyone i know get a yearly rent increase and rent right now is through the roof. i see people on facebook asking for places to rent and it's hard to find anything to rent under $1k except for a 1 bedroom apartment.

it's at the point now that it's cheaper to buy a house at least on the monthly cost of it. just requires way more up front for a downpayment and stuff compared to 1st and last months rent.

Quality of life plays a huge part in happiness and owning your home is probably one of the biggest things you can do to improve it.
