I think it's a good thing for the government to take care of those who cannot take care of themselves.

Did you know that one of the major "studies" that really pushed the movement of deinstitutionalization was largely fabricated?

I dont personally credit one thing to the push since a lot of factors contributed to it. Besides public perception shifting and Kennedy advocating against them the biggest reason was likely prescription drugs becoming readily available and far cheaper imo.

but if theres one study that actually was credited for changing public perception and it was fabricated I was not aware of it.

Id be interested in reading it if you dont mind linking it, but if its just gonna be something like the Stanford prison experiment its not really gonna absolve all the issues that came with state institutions.

The birth of anti-psychotics changed the nature of treatment, not the need for institutions.

There is a reason so many of those abandoned facilities are thought to be haunted. A lot of bad stuff happened in those places

But we should be continually working to reform and improve healthcare, not abandoning it.
The problem is they can do horrible things/experiments to mental patients and if they speak up they just claim it is the psychosis, or them acting out for attention. They are the doctors after all. Mental institutions can be nice or hell on earth, and can switch at any time.

Long term? It's actually hard to find information on that kind of care for mental health if you don't know what to look for.

I imagine you're not just talking about hospital wards.

I guess I don't quite understand what TC wants. But yea we should improve things. I just don't want those old corrupt places coming back. Where people were abused. If they can assure it won't happen then ok
