I'm unsure how SQL will help with budget files... but it's not a bad idea in general, everyone can learn more stuff!

Sounds like something that could be managed efficiently by excel or any similar spreadsheet program.

And with that...pow! I'm gone!

That makes sense. Thanks for the feedback on this trivial issue.

learning spreadsheets would have more utility unless you actually want to learn sql, then it'd be a nice tidy project for you.

are you a programmer? then definitely learn SQL, it's not hard.

if not, well, spreadsheets can do a lot but are also pretty limiting. you won't be able to do anything on a larger scale very well, but if you're not a programmer, I guess that's just life.

Sometimes, I feel like it would be useful to learn as a job skill. But the language itself doesn't seem that interesting to read about or play with.

I would not consider myself a serious programmer, no.

spreadsheets are going to be better for something like a personal budget 99% of the time. SQL is really powerful but it's also cumbersome. unless you have a specific thing that a spreadsheet can't do, just use a spreadsheet

For a budget, you're almost certainly going to be fine with Excel or another spreadsheet program. Unless you're expecting to need SQL professionally or have another few personal tasks that you think it might help with, I wouldn't bother.

I have my budgets in SQL but I wanted to brush up on it a little bit cause it's sorta relevant to my career. You can definitely do it way easier in spreadsheets

if you think it's useful but not fun don't bother. Life is too short.

plenty of skills that are marketable that you might enjoy fun otherwise.
