TL;DR: I eventually got the PRK surgery in 2016. Now my vision is great in both eyes. Best decision I ever made.

It was only for a few years. Maybe 4 or so. My bad vision was completely self inflicted. It started with bad vision in my right eye from looking at the sun when I was stupid little kid. But my left eye was fine. When I was doing the eye test for my driver's permit, I read the left column and middle columns just fine. She said that's great, now read the right column. I was confused for a second because I legit could not see a single letter in the eye machine in the right column. It wasn't that they were blurry. It was literally that they looked blank. The lady told me I needed glasses lol.

Ended up getting contacts which made everything sooo clear. I eventually stopped wearing though out of laziness plus I felt confident enough to just go with the vision in my left eye. Well a few years later in college, there was a super hot summer and my mom's apartment would get really hot. The sun shone on my room specifically and it was the only room in the house the AC wouldn't cool. So I had a desk fan that I kept in front of my face. That fan stayed on all summer since I didn't go out much that year. Like legit stayed on days at a time in front of my face and I even slept with it in front of my face. Caused really bad dry eyes that I didn't realize until much later. Also made my vision in my left eye go bad. I slowly realized I couldn't make out my professor's face anymore when I felt like I should. Put my contacts back in but after day 3, my eyes would turn red from being dried out (this is only from wearing them 4-6 hours a day. never slept in them). Had to get a new pair of glasses. Got extremely fed up with my job after college because I was working as a service technician and would be in the sun a lot or dirty environments. Glasses would constantly get dirty.

Are they permanent fix? I heard they are not permanent which is putting me off from getting mine done.

I'd say it is a permanent fix, but depends on how you define permanent. My vision is still great 5 years later. But the surgery won't stop your vision from decreasing over time from age like it naturally would.

I generally don't have to work in a dirty environment so I don't mind wearing glasses. I also think they are an opportunity to make a subtle fashion statement I guess as in, I actually enjoy the look of myself with glasses on.

That said, more power to you if the surgery has improved your quality of life. There may be a future in which I end up doing the same, we'll see.

I didn't mind them too much in college although I saw them as an inconvenience to have to rely on them, but man it was so frustrating when I got that one job. Felt like I had to take my glasses off to clean them every 30 mins to an hour. And then at one job site while working on a roof with my friend, I took my glasses off for something. Moved them away from my friend so he doesn't accidentally sit or step on them. He ended up somehow doing it anyway and broke one of the temples. I was poor so I couldn't get a replacement right away so I had to have it sit a certain way. It felt soooo freeing once I got that surgery. For the first time since I was a little kid, I had good vision in BOTH eyes naturally. Now I work in IT and work on a computer all day so I don't even have the issue of working in a dirty environment anymore lol.

I'll be honest. I was definitely old enough to know better. >_> It started off as a dare between my cousin and me. I think she started lol. We both did it saying it didn't hurt. You know those dots you get from staring at a light source? I had a HUGE one in my right eye that slowly got smaller over weeks/months. I was too scared to tell anyone I was dumb enough to look at the sun lmao. Even a couple years later, there like the tiniest pinhole in my vision in my right eye. Like if I were to read a book, the dead center of where I was looking of a letter would be missing.

For me its so i can play water sports/activity again. I used to enjoy kayak and swimming. And now i have to constantly have the goggles on. Its just a pain. They usually come off when u go on water slides and when you dive into the water too.

I admittedly got it at a point in my life where I definitely couldn't afford it. This facility which was one of my company's clients seemed really high end. They took CareCredit though so I applied for a CareCredit credit card and got approved. Procedure was like 4500 or so total for both eyes. Shortly after I got the procedure, I heard an ad on the radio of a place that would do both eyes for like $2000. That definitely sucked but I didn't do any shopping around for prices. Although I'm not sure if I would have felt going to a cheaper place anyway lol.

I got lasik back in 2014. I was really near sighted, but the surgery actually didn't give me 20-20. More like 20-25 for each eye, but maybe 20-20 binocular. I got my left eye touched up, but not my right, just in case.

I had a one year warranty + 1 life time for touch ups, but I never did my right eye.

Anyway my left eye is good still, while my right eye got a little worse, mainly at night. Overall binocular vision is 20-20. It's definitely worth the investment. I might touch up my right eye this year. I actually tried before lock down last year, but they were really trying to convince me not to, and I delayed it.

I think it was 4500? (or was it 2500? I don't remember) But it was the best money I ever spent. Contacts is such a pain in the ass. if I ever had to go back, I'd go to glasses.
