Apparently this kid ran out into traffic at a stoplight. Definitely the father's fault. 10 ft away, even if you slam the brakes you'll still hit someone if only a bump

I see he claimed fault, thats why I mentioned it. But you also need to be aware of your surroundings while driving. Constantly scanning around.

id say they both fucked up. Dad should have been playing closer attention, definitely.

Father claimed fault and the child was ok. This would be my reaction as well.

The I wouldnt even be here if I wasnt dropping off a customer made me laugh.

I had that mindset at 16 when I dropped off a co worker, and got a ticket for a rolling stop. I wouldnt have been in that position if I didnt have to take him home.

Yeah, this one isn't on the driver.

People do dumb shit. Even if you are paying attention, people can still act in ways that are outside your control to prevent (based on what I just read, even someone paying attention would not have had proper stopping distance to prevent the kid from being hit). The father took responsibility as he should have and hopefully the kid learned a serious lesson.

Honestly I think they're in the right to be irritated by it. Nobody wants to be hounded for months about an accident beyond their control. Kids run out into traffic without looking every day. Maybe if you're lucky you can manage to avoid hitting someone who runs in front of you, but it's not that easy with split-second timing.

Unintentionally hitting a 3yr old that ran in front of my moving vehicle while I had a passenger in my backseat

is she trying to say she didnt brake hard enough, thus hitting the kid, because of the person in the back? Or just giving a description

Yeah its like coming up to a one way street and NOT looking both ways just in case. Yeah you might be right to say you shouldnt have to but that one time you dont and some dick is coming down the wrong way by accident that isnt going to help you when you end up in hospital.

You can be driving 25-35 mph, aka the speed limit for most city driving, be paying attention at all times, and still have a hard time reacting to someone/thing running onto the road 10ft in front of you.

Stop people cant get out of their bubble and understand how the world actually works.

I know this is a bait topic, but I have to comment... if you haven't hit any small animals, that's just luck. I hadn't hit anything in the road, either, until about three years ago when a raccoon stepped right in front of my car at 2 a.m. while I was going 45 mph (the speed limit).

I had about one second to react. Slowing down wouldn't have worked. Swerving would have been dangerous. I hit him and felt terrible about it, but really in hindsight there was no way to change the outcome. Shit happens. Cars move fast and have weight. You can't always "dodge" things.

Also you say "you should constantly be aware of your surroundings"

Fam unless you were in the the car you have absolutely no idea what happened. I don't understand what you expect someone to do in that situation. If your foot is already on the gas and someone bolts out into traffic there's literally nothing you can do. When you see a pedestrian at a crosswalk do you avoid driving for 10 seconds after the light turns green in case they might potentially start dashing?
