Hamas also controls territory right on their doorstep and routinely launches thousands of rockets at Israel. So yes, the US gives military aid with the goal of deterring another war. We fund the iron dome system to protect civilians from rocket attacks. We also give aid to surrounding nations like Egypt and Jordan so they continue to commit themselves to peace. This isn't a handout, Israel still spends 6% of their GDP on defense, nearly twice as much as the US does. US policy is based on pragmatism and outcomes, another Arab-Israeli war would be even more costly, would lead to even more deaths and more losses of Palestinian territory.
