I bit into the Deltarune hype, so before I play it, I felt like I should play Undertale first. Im basically doing a Pacifist run, but as I remember hearing, you cant actually get Pacifist for real on your first run.

Ive heard that you should play the game like you arent aware of routes, but to be honest, Ive seen a few videos a while back, and the act of attacking isnt fun or anything, basically a minor timing minigame. You get more interesting stuff for not attacking.

As for the non gameplay aspects, its not bad. Im not exactly well versed in how to describe or critique humor, so what I say may not make sense. The humor feels well constructed. In this I mean that it gets a few laughs, and also very few groans. I might not find it all super entertaining, but I can bear through it without it being painful. Which I suppose is a good thing.

As for where I am, I did the visit to Undynes house. I died to her once, after not getting the pointed hint about escaping until like the turn before I died.

I was playing MGS3 before this, but since Id also played 1 and 2 sequentially, I felt like a break would better help me recalibrate in my enjoyment with 3.

From what I remember, the way the pacifist run works on your first time through is you hit credits and then you can go back and do this extra bit that is blocked off from a run where you killed anyone. Then you just do the ending again and I'll leave it at that. So you basically see the neutral ending first and then the pacifist one.

Sounds like you're enjoying it. I'm glad. Love Undertale and Deltarune (and MGS).

If you're interested in the pacifist route, the game does actually notice your first time through even if you don't get the "pacifist ending" so to speak.

enjoy. its a wonderful game with a ton of wonderful ideas and its astonishing how much polish went into it considering it was for the most part one guy working on it with some help here and there. Playing it will make Deltarune way more impactful and interesting, and imo Deltarune has overall surpassed it at this point with all its changes.

A regular neutral route is fairly bare bones.

neutral route is cooler than a lot of people give it credit for but a lot of that coolness comes from not really knowing about the existence of the various routes in the first place. once you know, you can't really un-know regardless of how much you pretend so I'd say by this point there's not really much point in it for the average person unless they somehow managed to totally avoid undertale spoilers until now (basically impossible if you spent any real amount of time on the english speaking internet in the past 5 years)

There's really two main things I think are neat about some sort of neutral route:

1) There's a ton of variety in dialogue, events, options, etc depending on which monsters you kill and which monsters you don't. The epilogue has probably 10+ variants, not that I think the average person will ever see more than one of them. This is mostly nice for comparison/contrast to a later pacifist run since it's cool seeing more stuff happen because more monsters are alive

2) The... surprise factor? for lack of a better word. The game has a certain theme/message that I think is best delivered when you walk into it totally unknowingly on a first playthrough where you've killed things. This is the bigger one imo and also the one that's not just a playstyle thing but also kinda requires you don't even have the concept of the pacifist route in the first place. Like sure the game says you can spare people, but it's not always obvious how, your cursor starts out on attack every single turn, and come on you want some exp don't you? The game does a very good job of portraying the monsters as the good guys (or at the very least, the neutral guys) rather than the bad guys and kinda putting forward this sort of "Are you really going to kill them? You sure that's the choice you want to make?" kind of question which I think falls a little flat if you've already decided before the game even starts that you're not killing anyone no matter what because you know that's how you get the coolest ending or whatever

not that there's really anything you can do about #2 nowadays

Finished True Pacifist, but have to walk around everywhere before finishing proper. Fun game, some characters grow on you that you think wouldnt after their first impression.

Playing through Deltarune, Gervix, Jelvix, whatever his name is, is rough. I might be able to get slightly better armor, not sure if itd help excessively much. I think I was closeish once, making it a few rounds after his mega scythe spam, but not enough.

To me, what I said in the first post mostly applies to the whole thing. It feels pretty solid. Decent humor, I feel like Im often tilted by unfunny things, but I never felt like I wanted to stop playing. The battle system is amusing enough, though only a few fights really make it as interesting as possible.

Even though I was always a skeptic, I felt like the game did end up being fairly charming. Relatively enjoyable cast of characters (this may depend on the choices made).

Are you playing genocide of undertale?
If I do, it might be a ways into the future. Everything Ive heard about it makes it seem tedious. I could do that and the other Deltarune thing at about the same time. Dont wanna burn myself out too hard.

The Undertale one is tedious, but still only a few hours long minus the boss fights, but those boss fights are the best ones in the game. The differences are really worth it.

Dealtarune Chapter 1 doesn't really have an alternate path. You can fight enemies, but it doesn't change much. Chapter 2 does and it's great. Probably going to need to follow a guide if you wanna do it though. It's not long at all, but there are some missable things you need to do to get to the right point. Very much worth it.
