graduation ceremonies like that typically aren't segregated, though, but they might have an Asian, Black, LGBTQ, etc. emphasis.

from my experience (I've helped organize some), everyone is welcome, and if a white person, for example, wants to participate in the graduation, they're welcome.

it's just that marginalized/underserved people can generally have factors that lead to them graduating at a lower rate than the majority, and if a member of that group ends up graduating, it's not just an individual achievement, but also something the community can take pride in.

As a general concept, segregation leads to a lack of empathy and should thus be discouraged. It isn't limited to race either, by any means. That's why there's such a big divide between the rural population and those in urban centers. Their entire system of connection to others is so different that at times it seems like they live in parallel worlds.

They were saying that segregation leads to lack of empathy even if the lines of segregation were not race based.

Idk how you got the idea they were saying "racism isn't about race."

The national anthem should be changed but there shouldnt be two. Thats dumb.

but i think the idea of safe spaces isnt dumb. Regardless of how the alt right feel some places need to be safe and comfortable for people to be able to learn/vent.
