Considering Nintendo, in their infinite wisdom, decided to equip the switch with a tegra x1 of all things, they're have to deal with less horsepower than most phones from 4 years ago had, it's no surprise they're having to cut corners.

Adjusting for inflation, probably over $100 in today's currency. Games have gotten way cheaper over time.

If it doesn't have a minimum of 250 hours of identical fetch quests, I think it should be like $20 max.

They're meant to be replayed and for you to sequence break and speedrun. The game is not a 3hr game.

Why is it ok for open world games to artificially make games longer by copying and pasting enemy bases and questlines, but not for this game to encourage multiple playthroughs, a staple for the series and genre?

Imo Bloodstained will shit all over this game. And it had a bunch of free dlc/characters as well.

As silly as this opinion is, I do appreciate how much buzz this game has reached on the Internet. Like many other games with buzz, the game should sell pretty well from exposure alone. Metroid's biggest problem in the past is that it was never talked about enough in the mainstream for people to even know about it.

Now I'm seeing even non-gamers talking about the game, suggesting they've at least heard of it.

Nintendo doesn't appear to have progressed in their attitude towards Metroid in 30 years, which is an issue.

Dread looks like it will be absolutely bodied by literally any Metroidvania from the last decade that was a fraction of the cost.

Those were also GBA games, design philosophy for the series has changed a bit since then, and it's also worth comparing expectations for Dread against what we know from the same developer

But how do you gauge whether or not a game is actually worth $60?

The budget is there, the quality is there, and the replay value is there.

I know other quality games in the genre cost less, but master pieces like Hollow Knight and Bloodstained have an argument to be worth it at $60 too. Had I bought them at that price point I wouldn't feel ripped off.

I'd like it if it Dread was cheaper too, but it 100% worth it at that price point.
