The main reason a lot of super heros have costumes that cover their entire body (Spiderman) is because the creators wanted readers to be able to put whoever they wanted in the suits. Ofc Peter Parker is a white dude, but anyone could be Spiderman under the mask, anyone could have been bitten by the spider.

Same thing with Thor. Thor isn't the big muscled, white skinned, blonde hair viking dude. Thor is whoever the hammer deems worthy.

There is nothing wrong with changing who dons a certain super heros costume.

The only thing I care about is how they work it into the canon.

I cant really call them replacements when theyre in fact, new characters.

I dont like it when they straight up race swap characters though, I dont understand the point of that.

Derivative characters are part of comics in general though and have been for a long time, much longer than the complainers about characters like Riri or Miles Morales would have you believe.

The idea of taking a popular character and placing that power set (or a similar power set) on a new character with a different background to see if they can spin that into more money is not new at all.

Uhm, weird answer to the question as asked. Let me write out the defining background traits of the Peter Parker character.

Orphan who lives with his aunt and uncle, who are not rich.
Smart enough to go to higher education on scholarships.
His New York home probably fits in there, but I do not know enough about New York to put that into words, it is probably a neighbourhood that fits with his aunt and uncle's financial status.

None of that actually requires a specific ethnicity I would think.

Characters like Steve Rogers and Bruce Wayne have defining core traits that require them to be of some white descent. Especially since both like to maintain their period piece origins (WW2 for Steve, undefined Noir times for Bruce)

I mean, Miles Morales is super popular so I guess it worked in his case. Kamala Khan becoming the new Ms Marvel has also been a popular move. What was funny to me though was when Sam Wilson became Captain America and dudes lost their shit. There had been like, 3 or 4 different people to take on the mantle of Captain America at that point and doofuses that knew nothing about comics were just like "CAPTAIN AMERICA IS WHITE!" No... Steve Rogers is white, important distinction there.

And? It is both Thor Odinson's given name and his "super hero name", to the point that people who have claimed his powers for their own in some way, also decided to go by Thor as their "super hero name"

You may find that silly, but that is how it has worked in Marvel since the late 80's/early 90's.

You may not like the Jane Foster thing but Im a little tired of people acting like this is some new shit that Marvel or comics in general just started. The whole idea of new characters taking over the role or mantle of an established character is several decades old at the very least.

Its not always executed well but thats true of anything that tries to shake up a well established formula. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

That's fine. I think stan Lee said it was ok for spider man to be something else but Peter Parker needed to be a straight white male. And that's how I feel. Id be fine with a black batman. Not so much a black Bruce Wayne unless it was clearly a alternate universe.

I don't care, however, I'd rather they come up with new IPs altogether than change the ethnicity of existing characters and reuse the same IP while claiming their idea is "new" and "fresh".

Because I'd rather western studios stop recycling the same IPs over and over again entirely.

And yeah, I understand why they recycle the same IPs over and over again, I don't care, I think that's boring. Come up with new stuff.

I mean true. But I meant like if Bruce Wayne was turned black but the rest of the dc universe was still carrying on like it was part of the same time line.

But still I think its better to go the mile Morales approach if you wanna make a established hero different. I dont mind so much if its lesser popular or obscure characters though as a reinventing may help em out.

Now let's say talk about starfire in titans. That I didnt mind cause its not like she was white or any realistic skin color to begin with. I wish they would have used body paint or cgi to make her orange but I know they are just being cheap so I take it for what it is. Same with beast boy.

Monica Rambeau. She, was in WandaVision. In the comics she had a run as Captain Marvel, well before Carol Danvers even had the title. She's had a ton of aliases, but I believe they're going with her Photon alias in the MCU to honor her mother's call sign.
