A correction: She calls debridement "cutting off the infected part," but that's inaccurate. Debridement is cutting open the infected area and flushing it with antibiotics. There generally shouldn't be any amputation involved.

Presumably she was. Infections like that usually come with a considerable fever, plus the increased blood flow to the inflamed area will make it feel much hotter than the rest of her skin.

*Shrug* Maybe the term's different for bedsores. Cutting out necrotic tissue during the process is also pretty standard, but that's cutting out necrotic tissue, not cutting out the whole infection.
