I mean Facebook isn't great, sure, but people talk about how evil it is while we have sites like Reddit and Twitter which encourage extremely dangerous groupthink and incentivizes pushing the common opinion to the top and silencing all dissention. At least Facebook you're limited to sharing with your friends and family...twitter lets the masses form a mob, and reddit just encourages more and more extreme opinions for upvotes and causes more and more extremes in society.

Facebook at least because of its smaller scale allows for more meaningful discussion while Reddit can mass downvote and hide your post if you disagree or try to add some nuance to the discussion.

I don't get it. All social media is pretty bad but Facebook does not seem like the worst of it at all.

Facebook absolutely has spaces that go far, far beyond just "your friends / family", and a significant number of users - especially of the "rabid" type - tend to have a lot of Facebook friends that they met in said spaces.

How is Reddit worse then Facebook? The leaks that just came out showed they purposefully hyped up negative and false news because it would piss people off thus causing people to click more and making more money.

Because people in this demographic are much more likely to use Reddit/Twitter, and few people argue for the complete collapse of the stuff they use.

Go to the politics sub on reddit for example, and see how left vs right news is treated. Im a democrat who HATES the reddit leftists, because of how extreme it is. Anything that criticizes the left is downvoted, while anything that praises the left or insults the right gets thousands of upvotes. The board has 7 million members.

I dont see how facebook can be worse than an echo chamber like that, especially considering on reddit downvoted comments get deleted and upvoted comments go straight to the top

And you can say the same for the conservative sub.

Facebook may have misinformation, but Reddit is responsible for the extremization and echo chambers of both sides. Its awful for society.

Personally I use all three, but its so weird seeing Facebook hated on while the other platforms that are just as bad are praised. ive seen way more harmful rhetoric on reddit and twitter than facebook

Part of it is the average age of the user... older people who tend to influence more than the average Twitter/Reddit user. Giuliani just testified one of his claims came from seeing a Facebook post. Russian troll farms targeted Facebook for AstroTurf efforts rather than Twitter/Reddit due to the ability to access older adults.

No they don't. You can control how they sort.

Facebook literally uses an algorithm to keep your posts a literal echo chamber with no user input.

You are forgetting the part where Facebook steals all your personal info, even if you don't have a Facebook account, and sells it to anyone willing to pay.
