In North America I mean. One of the best games of all time and my personal favorite of the franchise.

Gonna start up a playthrough today, it been a couple years since Ive done one

Agreed, but I'm pretty much done with the series.

It was one of my most precious gaming memories during that decade. Demon's Souls was amazing, and the fact that Dark Souls improved on it in almost everyway is truly an astonishing feat.

...Then Dark Souls 2 came out and diarrhead all over the franchise and never recovered.

I know Im in the minority but I actually really liked Dark Souls 2. Sure its the worst of the franchise but its still a fun game. It just isnt a masterpiece like DS1

For me it goes DS1>BB>DS2>DeS (havent played Sekiro or finished DS3)

genre defining series. Shame it basically killed Armored Core and creativity in the genre in some aspects.

Quite the opposite

it opened up interest in the mechanics of action games beyond Fighter Competitive & Beat-em-up elitism

Dark Souls 1 is my favorite of the trilogy, and one of my favorite games ever. I didn't play it much after I finished my SL1 run. I always wanted to do a legitimate quality build since I usually used Faith/Int as support for most of my characters.

Ds2 is good. The scholar of sin edition. Not the xbox 360 and ps3 ones. Those were aaaaaaaaaassss. And 3 is the worst of the series.
But ds1 will have a special place in my life. One of my top 3 favorite games. We praised. Oh did we praise. \[T]/

They can make new ones any time. :)

anyway, it's not the topic to shit on the state of monetization. Dark Souls is great and I hope Elden Ring will be.

you mentioned genres that are heavily monetized, because they're full of clones. Dark Souls spawning clones isn't FromSoft's fault.

Dark Souls 3 is my favorite, especially ringed city DLC and the Gael fight. It's incredible shit.

Ive never actually done any kind of Dex build in DS1, Ill consider trying this out

Or I might just go with a GiantDad build, Ive never actually used it for a PVE run before lol

3 was the best one, tho. Bloodborne got great reception, although I haven't played it. Sekiro is amazing, and Elden Ring looks to be amazeballs.

I actually like Scholar more than vanilla.

The DLC's are baked in, which were the best of that game anyway, plus they fixed the horse shit boss walks, namely the walk to Velstadt.

There is extra loot to pick up which does wonders for build variety, considering most areas you can hit first before ever going to Forest of Fallen Giants

Hmm really, Ive heard people complain more about the extra difficulty in the Scholar placement of enemies, like it doesnt feel natural or something like that

Ive only ever played Vanilla, but Ill be trying the Scholar version on my replay of the series once I get to 2

Yeah the enemy placement in Scholar is fucking ridiculous. I dont give a shit about the difficulty of them, but its patently obvious that they just threw enemies into areas based on what sort of challenge the area needed rather than if the enemy fit the area, which completely breaks the immersive quality of the game, which is what I come to the Souls series for. And its not like DS2 wasnt already straining in that area.
