Theories that we'd be getting multiple characters since they kinda control the same, but ultimately I was glad they picked Min Min since she's top tier. Joker was a massive surprise and set the tone early. Hero was from the most popular game series ever. Banjo's trailer invoked the perfect Rare nostalgia and showed off his perfect new design. Terry's was such a perfect love letter to the SNK franchise. Min Min's reveal was stylish af. Steve's trailer was such a splendid troll job and perfectly encapsulated how goofy his inclusion was. Sephiroth did a good job being Sephiroth. Pyra's was easily the biggest swerve into being a Smash trailer. Kazuya's was the funniest trailer, just casually murdering the entire roster. And Sora's trailer wasn't the best or flashiest, but just the theatrics of showing that this marks the end of development for this game, and the fact that it was SORA were definitely both a big deal. It's honestly really hard for me to pick just one. At the time, the Grinch leak was HUGE, and it had just been deconfirmed, and we were left with Incineroar and Ken as the only reveals in that direct. Then near the end, Sakurai teases us with "something", and it wasn't even clear what it was, but it definitely didn't seem like it was going to be for a fighter. The trailer starts, and out of nowhere, Piranha Plant is a playable fighter. Besides us not expecting a fighter reveal, layering on the complete out of left field choice that it was a Piranha Plant was so baffling and it took people a bit to process what just happened. It blew my mind in the best way, and saved that direct, as well as set a precedent for how the life of Smash DLC would go. It was a neat hype reveal for sure, but I didn't really feel a great amount of detail or love in there, could just have been a reveal for any game's bad guy.
