  6. Banjo & Kazooie
  7. Pyra/Mythra
  8. Joker
  9. Hero
  10. Kazuya
  11. Terry
  12. Byleth

10/11 I literally did not know before their reveal so I just ranked them by how cool they looked. Byleth was my most disappointed reveal because
  1. I was a little sick of FE too
  2. I feel Byleth is the most boring pick from FE3H. Avatar characters as a whole are boring to me, and the real stars of the game (The Three Lords) should have been the representation if FE had to be picked.

In all actuality, my first point is kinda true, but I thought the idea of Edelgard would have been cool (heavy axe user/female/villain, would have checked a lot of much needed lists with those latter two in terms of representation). If not, Dimitri is a fan-favorite in Japan from what I hear, and a lance user would have still been unique.

Sakurai did do a good job in making Byleth unique (and the color swaps were great since the 3 lords ended up being there in that way), but I still feel Byleth as a character is boring for a game like Smash. A game where you can make dream matchups happen... and no one's asking for Byleth vs Mario. Ironically enough, Byleth is the most fun I've had with a DLC character (besides PP) since he just plays in an enjoyable way for me, and he still looks/feels unique when it comes down to it.

On the other hand, PP was extremely exciting to me, because it brought back the wacky, zany picks we haven't seen since Wii Fit Trainer was introduced. Those additions are honestly always my favorite to see because they're just random, and you appreciate that Sakurai is willing to give all of Nintendo a chance rather than just the safe main character picks (it's why I want Mario Kart to stay Mario Kart and not Smash Kart since we get to see the grunts of Bowser's force as playable characters which would surely change if it became the latter). It's also funny that Piranha Plant made it in before Toad.

Sephiroth was extremely exciting because he came with an awesome trailer, and he's legit one of the most iconic final bosses of gaming (villain representation is always a plus). There's not much more to say beyond he's cool, and I'm glad he's in. Really glad Nintendo was able to strengthen their ties with Square Enix considering Sm4sh gave us very little FFVII content when Cloud was released.

Before Steve was released, there were a lot of rumors about his addition to Smash. At the time, I thought it would be stupid, and was hoping Nintendo wouldn't go there, but when the trailer came, it felt right seeing Steve finally in a game with Mario and company. Steve is perhaps the most iconic video-game character of the 2010's (I suppose MC technically was created 2009, but you know), gamers and casuals know him. The rise of Minecraft, regardless of how you feel about Notch, is one of gaming's greatest stories. From rags to riches that game ended up being. Plus, we got to see the coming together of Microsoft and Nintendo once again, which is always a win in my book.
