And lack of trust is why I didn't consider taking the Browns.

I don't trust them to win a game like that. They had chances to close it out and they couldn't. That game may as well have gone as I expected.

So you trusted... the Chargers?

So you trusted... the Chargers?
The Chargers under Herbert have gotten much better at winning close games. The ghost of Philip Rivers still just haunts the memories of the fandom.

Yes, they have that mess of a loss to the Cowboys, but they have an even better win at KC. They're a better team than the Browns with a better quarterback. The Browns have not proven they can win that kind of game, "cursed franchise" or not.

they were still very much the Chargers last year

The good thing is the Chiefs have their easiest 3 game stretch of the season starting next week and if we win those three were still a playoff team as long as we can handle the Broncos and Raiders

Let me sum up my trust level in this Browns team:

They had a ridiculously easy schedule last year, but through 15 weeks I never suicide picked them. This year, I got rid of them as early as possible.

I see them as a team talented enough to beat anyone, but inconsistent enough to lose to anyone. This team lost to the Jets last year, and barely escaped the Jags, among other rubbish. I don't feel confidence when I'm picking games that involve this team, but if they're playing a high level team? I have faith in them that they won't pull it through.

You mean a team that won it's last four games, including three in a row by exactly 3 points?

and lost 7 one-score games in a row prior to that so they still come out with a losing record in close games

And this matters, why?

It's almost like Herbert got better than he started as he gained game experience and helped a team figure out how to win despite having a lame duck coach.

Because those games count just as much as the games at the end.

Like yeah, you can say Herbert started putting it together at the end, but that 4 game win streak was preceded by losing 45-0 to New England.

This is a different team. It feels different.

But really the concept of trusting the Browns more than the Chargers based on the pre-Herbert Chargers when this Browns team has done absolutely nothing is madness.

I still think the Chargers messed up that one play, but I'm not surprised that the Browns did absolutely nothing with it but 3-5 yard passes down the middle of the field.

I honestly think that could have good for the Chargers. Their season was already "over" .It shouldn't have gotten anywhere near that ugly, but they lost their discipline and imploded. Lotta good film came out of that one.

That game was something of a wake up call.

The Chargers are a team that is steadily learning how to close, and it dates back to last year. If this team can learn to do it consistently they can beat anyone.

Speaking of learning how to close, the Jaguars are on 20 straight losses but arguably let.. 5? 6? Of those games completely get away.

Like when they had an entire quarter to make 1 good play against the Bengals and never did. The announcers were even calling them out on it.

Yeah, some of those games were winnable (including one against the Titans last year! There's always one, so I'm already dreading the second game against Jacksonville). That's the benefit of experience and coaching. I think the Chargers know Staley believes in them, and they're thriving off of it.

After getting absolutely massacred last week, I got those fuckers this time around.

I hit them on Bills/Chiefs halftime over 28.5

I hit them on over 56.5

I hit them on UNDER 65.5 which was a live bet.

Got everything back from last Sunday and then some. They even tried calling Zeus to get the game cancelled coz they knew what was going on

Remember that Belicheck's specialty as a coach is essentially just gameplanning one guy out of the game. He always does that shit to rookie QBs in particular, too. Wilson saw similar frustrations earlier this year, even if the score wasn't quite as lopsided.

Belichick can def scheme people out of a game but it's a double edged sword. He banks on the opposing QB taking what he gives them, so for example last week he faced a QB that fits that perfectly, Brady only took what was given and if it wasn't for the rain that would not have been a close game. Against rookies and meme QBs who don't know any better, they throw into double and even triple coverage, if it works they end up with huge games against Belichick. He can't out scheme talent, he can only hope the opposing QB is dumb enough to play his 4D chess and not trust his WRs' talent.

Houston still not being good enough to put the game away when they had the chance also wasn't surprising.

If we played them again in neutral weather conditions, even with Gilmore we would probably lose again. They also didn't have Gronk, Brady's most trusted receiver, that can probably catch a ball in the endzone.

If the kicker had just made the XP then we had a REALLY good chance, I think the 42-42 tie and the 49-42 inevitable score were both scorigamis

Seriously, just read it. E-Mails ranging from 2011-2018. NFL obtained them during their investigation of the WFT (they were sent to Bruce Allen, the former president of the team) and it is a lot. About damn near every topic you can imagine.

legit unsure if i'd get modded just for citing some of it directly here

I kind of suspect this too, but there's a problem I see here.

Gruden was not an NFL employee when that email was written. Can they punish him to that degree for something from 10 years ago when he wasn't part of the NFL?

'Cause if I'm Gruden my next call is to my lawyer seeing how much money I can still get out of this.
