Look it's cool and all if you managed to pull off a no-death run in Super Castlevania IV after playing the game 30 times but it's not "super easy" by any means

Some people forget how hard a game was at the very beginning. I can say for example, that Dark Souls or Nioh doesn't gives me any troubles these days even at their hardest but some people still posting for help every so often and I get that urge to type "lol ez", but then again I beat the content several times over too.

And even if someone did beat a certain game a lot, that doesn't mean they put as much effort into being excellent at the game either. They might just have enjoyed it instead of perfecting their runs.

I think Dark Souls fan can be pretty gooberish about it, but I also think that if the game's fundamental selling point is its difficulty curve then maybe adding in an easy mode doesn't serve it in any way.

And dark souls wasn't so difficult that it was largely prohibitive to a wide audience.

Save states turned Zelda II from one of my least favourite Zelda games to one of my favourites.

A game does not need to be difficult in order to be enjoyed but it should offer some level of challenge. How high that bar is set really depends on the intended audience of the game.

I do have concerns when the difficulty of the game is so great that the majority of the game cannot be enjoyed. Though a good game should be it's own reward.

A game can be too hard but a game can also be too easy. The real magic is in the balance of these things.
