Poll of the Day > Here I am replaying Far Cry 4.

The whole map is open from the beginning, after you do the tutorial. Just climbed up to the top of a tower with some combat and a jump puzzle, which unveiled the map of the region around it. Just running around doing little side dungeons and objectives, getting equipment. Every few little side dungeons I do, I get an upgrade. Collecting ingredients and crafting potions and stuff that I can use to make me stronger and be able to do different things.

I could go straight to the fortress of Pagan Min on the other side of the map, but it's really hard without getting upgrades and stuff. You can make it more manageable by going and doing the four other optional fortresses of his generals in the story, thankfully.

Kinda fun game.

Actually, you know, I can't quite put my finger on it, but I feel like someone may have pretty wholesale ripped off Far Cry to fairly critical acclaim a few years ago.

I played that. I think at one point I must have stopped a mission half way through and just wandered off to do other stuff. It might have been a situation where I completed what I thought was the last objective, only for it to lead to a new objective and I didn't realize that. Every time I started up my game I was nowhere near where I was last time and kept hearing the same briefing for the next part of what I was suppose to do.

Without getting into spoilers regarding 3, I normally couldn't go 10 steps without getting attacked by animals. Yet in a mission the character gets drugged and successfully crosses from one end of the island to the other while hallucinating.

Similarly the character has to navigate a cave at one point. He hallucinates and exits another cave. When you look at them outside the mission where he went in and where he came out don't connect. There was something strange happening in that game and I wished the story had been more about that.

3 and 4 are honestly the only Far Cry games I consider worth playing. Maybe with a nod to Primal if you're just up for a more casual experience.

The whole series is great imo. I even enjoyed 2 for what it was. Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon & Primal are my favorites.
