It's honestly fucking mindblowing to see anti-mask / anti-vax make up such a large portion of the population in America. Like... y'all DO realise you're the only place in the world where that shit isn't merely a near-negligable fringe movement, right?

I picked up some Chinese food last night and that place was practically locked down. Plexiglass encasing the counter, and you have to put your money in a box rather than handing it to them. Everyone is fully masked up.

When I go in an American owned store none of the employees even wear masks. It's like nothing is happening. We've fucking failed.

Maybe it has something to do with those fucking idiots at the CDC telling people in the beginning of the pandemic they don't have to wear masks? Personally I wear mine whenever I set foot indoors or even when I'm around a lot of people outdoors. Haven't caught covid. I think if everyone wore masks this pandemic would've been over by now. But I can't control what other people do.

Because they just don't want to wear the masks. Simple as that.

It's like when a parent tells a kid to wear a coat before going outside because it's cold. But the child doesn't want to. Maybe they don't want to because of how it feels. Maybe they're more comfortable without the coat. Or maybe they don't think it's necessary because it doesn't seem that cold out. Or maybe they don't want to just because their parent told them to. Now imagine they somehow took their disdain for wanting to wear a coat to such levels that it's gotten this big. That's basically what's going on with masks. In short, wear your fucking coat.

Masks became political when the original hot spots of Covid were in blue states, so they were the first to start mask mandates and lockdowns.

If the original Covid spikes started in Texas and Alabama, followed by a Trump win in 2020, a lot of peoples opinions on masks, lockdowns, and vaccines would be the opposite of what they are now.

I dunno. He's kind of both sides on both. He's had at least one press conference I recall last year where he appeared to be actively encouraging people to wear masks and claiming he likes to wear his. And then both before and after that he completely disparaged mask-wearing - including making fun of Biden during one of the debates for always wearing a mask.

His vaccine stance is confusing too. He's tweeted some anti-vax things years ago before covid. I don't think he ever said anything totally anti-covid-vaccine and he made a few statements sort of saying he encourages it but, similar to when he pressured states to end all lockdowns early, he doesn't seem to think anyone anywhere should be enforcing vaccines. Also he got his own vaccine in secret and apparently refused to be part of the campaign with all other former presidents to encourage vaccination. I think it's all just emblematic of the fact that Trump's opinions are mostly reactive rather than proactive and he'll be for or against whatever the opposite of the people he doesn't like are for or against.

Fox News has a vaccine mandate for their employees. Many of them still go on to spread vaccine misinformation.
