I've never played any of the games, and the Trilogy is on sale for the Switch. I'm curious on what you all think of these games.

Never played any these style of games before, they're visual novels I think? Does that mean it's an interactive book of sorts, and I can't really mess up or get different endings if I miss stuff or something like that? Will it still progress if I mess up an interrogation or miss clues?

theres no different endings. only thing you can do is mess up 5ish times and get a game over. but then you just load from a save, and you can save at any time.

Get the version of the games released on DS. The "remastered" re-releases look like they was drawn by a child.

The games have no alternative timelines based on if you miss clues and such. You can't progress the story until you have everything. Some of them have alternative "bad" endings based on binary choices at the ends of the game.

Ok, that's good to hear. I'm honestly just worried that I'll get a different, worse, "incomplete" kind of experience of the story because I sucked at finding clues or interrogating people, as I am a complete noob at these kind of games. But that doesn't seem the case from what you're all saying. The story unfolds and ends the same every time, if what I'm assuming is correct?

I have played LA Noire before (waaay back when it first came out, on a PS3), and that game made it possible to completely fail a case and just straight up miss out on the "correct" story and its respective conclusion, which was really frustrating to me. It made me end up just looking up how to solve each case correctly, which completely gave away all the surprises and made it a boring experience. I do not want to look up anything for the Ace Attorney games and stay spoiler free if possible.

What an all-time classic, I don't really play visual novels but that series was so exhilarating and I wish I could forget it all and play through it again fresh

Chill out, bruh.

They're good games, very enjoyable, but to claim that they're among the best VNs out there just shows that you haven't played many of those.

They're my favorite games of all time. If you like story-based games at all, you can't go wrong with them.

Remember TC. Don't waste your money on the gross Switch or PS4 versions. The OG (western) release is the only proper one.

In my opinion,

AA1 - A tier
AA2 - B tier
AA3 - S tier
AA4 - D tier
AA5 - S tier
AA6 - A tier
GAA1 - B tier

I haven't played the others.

Switch is the most convenient for me though

Are the 3DS and DS versions the same and count as the OG western releases, with the original sprites and not the redrawn art of the Switch/PS4 versions?

I know the DS version is the true OG, but thats gonna be a huge pain to get Im assuming, but not sure about the 3DS version and its artwork.

Just try to get the 3DS games if you like them since Capcom is under the impression that the trilogy is the only games that profit and thus they'd rather rerelease it ad infinitum rather than continuing with the series or port the newer games.

DS (and WiiWare, but I think the Wii shop is closed?) are the only releases that have the gorgeous sprite artwork. Every other release is ruined by Capcom. If that's no concern to you, you should just get whichever one is cheapest/best suited for you. Bear in mind that it's not only the artwork that is ruined. The DS version is the only one to use the iconic and non-shitty font. And some of the later versions go out of their way to spoil cases before you do them.

Really, I would just play the DS versions. Even if you don't have a DS/3DS.

They're good. They're very clever, the cases are shocking, and it's fun being able to nail a crook's ass to the wall while they squirm under the spotlight.
