I was wondering why the emails I got this morning had she/her at the bottom with the information blurb.

Then I was told that's now suggested company policy.

I don't know the backstory.

I'm so tempted to put God/Master/Lord at the bottom of mine but that seems unprofessional.

Anyone else had this?

I'm working on getting another job right now and it would be pretty helpful to me for when HR/contact people email me asking to set up an interview. I've just been using "hello," as a salutation because I don't want to risk using "Mr." or "Ms." and mistakenly assume a gender and offend them (happened once years ago before people got more sensitive about it and obviously didn't get that job)

Its not a bad idea at all, I know at my wife's work folks have been doing that for at least a year or two. At my work it hasn't really caught on, but they're also oddly strict about our email signatures so I guess its not surprising.

Maybe I'll put in an employee recommendation sometime. Its just a really simple little step that doesn't impact 98% of the people, but that 3% who it does help will probably really appreciate it.

Im not overly concerned about making sure people get my pronouns right - no one has gotten it wrong and i wouldnt care if they did

But if it normalizes the habit for people who do care a lot about this sort of thing, then jts a nice thing to do

I saw someone had this on their email for the first time the other week.

I don't care either way, when I am emailing someone I refer to them as "you" so it doesn't really make a difference to me.

...your work absolutely can mandate rules about the signature you use on company emails, I'm not sure why you think they couldn't.

If they were asking you to do it on your personal emails that have nothing to do with the company, at that point I'd definitely agree that it's none of their business.

To be fair, I don't like this policy because it forces people to out themselves when they might not want to.

The intention is good, but making everyone do it defeats the purpose.

It's technically optional (if not in practice) although you could just lie and not out yourself

Even if this werent a blatantly transphobic attitude to have, because no, pronouns arent always self-evident, many names are ambiguous, and names that were once used for one gender frequently get used for another (for example: Aubrey, which used to be a name for men, now primarily used by women).
