Voting with your wallet has never worked in the history of ever whilst being vocal about it actually gets people's attention, even if it doesn't result in the outcome they want.

"Voting with your wallet" seems to not to take into account that fact that there are people in this world with massively bigger wallets than the rest of the population.

Each person subscribed to Netflix pays roughly the same subscription fee. There is no inequality among Netflix subscribers. You're either subscribed or you aren't. Your vote counts as much as pretty much any other customer.

Uh huh. And producers pay for content to be made. It wasn't like they looked at the Netflix subscriber count and said "now there are finally enough subscribers to release The Closer".

Okay, but you know where the creators of Netflix get the money they need to sustain their operations? From the subscribers. If they lose subscribers, there's less money to go around. They don't have infinite money being teleported in from space; they have to keep making money with their products or else they'll run out. So, it's a pretty easy model to follow:

Initial Investment -> Product -> Subscribers pay for the product -> Investment recouped, plus profit -> More product -> More subcribers -> more profit

If they lose subscribers, their model slows down. If they lost many subscribers, they could go out of business entirely. It happens all the time, just look at Quibi. They dumped millions and millions of dollars into exclusive content, but they never got the subscriber count they needed, so the business imploded. It didn't matter how much money the investors provided--if they don't make the money back and turn a profit with their business model, it fails and the money vanishes.

"In 2018, Quibi raised $1 billion in funding from major Hollywood film studios, TV companies, telecommunications companies, technology companies, banks, and other investors"

"On October 21, 2020, just six months after Quibi's launch, The Wall Street Journal reported that the streaming service was shutting down."

No media company is infallible. Movie studios, game developers, etc. shut down all the time because they don't find enough customers for their product.

Potentially anything can be funny, yes. I was just pushing back on your stance on what types of rape are funny, as those by themselves are just some shitter sides of society.

Some people find racial slurs funny, but I wouldn't class them as acceptable comedy.

I think dropping Quibi is a pretty poor comparison when you know they can't remotely compare to a 14-year-old streaming giant.

Also Netflix didn't pay for the content to be made. Sina Sadighi and Stan Lathan are the producers of the special, although Netflix did pay for the distribution rights. Netflix didn't have a hand in creating this content.

Beyond all that, claiming people should "vote with their wallet" is just trying to shut them up because you don't want to listen to them anymore. The economy isn't a democracy.

And you know that.

Yet you feel you can apply it as a litmus to see if we're really serious about our complaints.

I posted this in another topic that I think is now gone but the reason I'm not just shutting up about this because people I love are hurting from this and I want others to understand why.

I realize I'm not going to sway you in particular. I get that.

in this very special, Chappelle had a whole bit revolving around "what are you willing to give up/do for your cause." he mentioned the Montgomery Bus boycott to him personally walking away from 50 mil.

giving up Netflix is a small price to pay for one's principles. I gave the NFL up for mine and I don't try shaming people who still tune in.

like I said earlier(or in another topic), a sense of entitlement has long been ingrained in American culture. one group gets special treatment, they all want it. from race to religion.

those who belong to one or more "privileged" demographic often find out certain privileges don't always translate well to the other demographics they belong to. but they might cling anyway because that's how they're conditioned.

like Caitlyn Jenner.. whom Chappelle also spoke of.

like... almost every talking point has already been addressed.

Yeah and if enough people quit their subscription over something, guess what; Netflix wont pay for the rights and guess what, it likely wont be made again or in the same vein.
