Would the bloke dismiss my self-diagnosis, deem me a liar, diagnose me for problems I probably don't have, and then waste my time by trying to work out these problems?

how do you want therapy to work. usually fixing issues you have will involve working on negative thought patterns or underlying causes. it sounds like you want them to give you a series of magic words that fixes your brain

Therapists are not supposed to dismiss your feelings and call you a liar. They are supposed to ask for relevant information, discuss your problems with you, and help you work out solutions. In your case, therapists would have to ask you why you're afraid of intimacy, followed by relevant questions. Then they would have to discuss with you ways to work out a way for it.

If you split therapist into two words, it really makes me think you shouldn't discuss intimacy issues with them.

it sounds like you want them to give you a series of magic words that fixes your brain I admit that this is partially true; I feel like I'd been squandering my time in my therapy sessions for years. Krazy_Kirby posted... why At first, I had wanted to become an actuary. I had figured I'd begin studying for the exams after college, when I did not figuratively have so much on my plate. Then I realized that I'm just not able to study efficiently nowadays. I'd been burnt out by my second-to-last semester of college and had been struggling to get by. I feel like I am hindered also by the psychological problems I have. But now, I'm not even sure if I take enough of an interest in probability and economics to want to study for actuarial exams, day and night. fishy071 posted... I'm not sure if I'd even answer those questions. I'm scared just thinking about it.That might be the point: until you can address the things that are truly on your mind you're probably not going to be able to move beyond them. If embarrassment is part of it try to let it go: therapists hear EVERYthing and are the most difficult to shock people in the world.
