The weakest part of Cowboy Bebop is the completely useless Ed and any of the Ed centric episodes

The strongest part of Cowboy Bebop [and any Watanabe IP honestly] is that there's something for everyone! :D Even if there's a part you don't like or think is weak, it's the part someone else loves!

I like the direction they took with it. I'll see how the first few episodes go, but I imagine I'll probably enjoy this.

Yeah I liked that quite s lot also. It has its own distinct style that still feels like it fits the characters and world which is really all uou can ask for.

Ballad of Fallen Angels is one of the greatest anime episodes of all time, I had to go rewatch it immediately after I saw this trailer. Still holds up

just got to this episode in my watch. definitely holds up. also, didn't realize it came so early in the show.

Yeah, part of what makes Bebop work is that it lulls you into thinking it's episodic but then drives everything home it's been building to at the end.
Didn't notice this before, but my point wasn't in reference to the episodic stuff vs the serialized stuff. The majority (not all, but the majority) of the episodes that have nothing to do with the larger plot still carry that melancholic feel and theming of the characters having to confront the pasts they won't let go of. That's why the plot episodes work so well - because they're informed by what happens in the others.

The silliness is very much a part of the show, too, for sure, and I even enjoy it for the most part. I've just never been given any real reason to believe that the folks behind this remake really understand that balance yet.

All that said, the trailer is the most promising thing they're released so far, and I'm more optimistic now than I was that it'll at least be solid.

Trailer was fantastic.

Is it going to be an episode for episode reenactment?

I saw bits from Asteroid Blues, Ballad, Gateway Shuffle, Pierrot Le Fou, etc. I'm not sure I mind but I wasn't sure if it was strictly a recreation.

Also some of the fighting seems a bit... ponderous? Particular the where Faye is gonna knife Spike, it just seems to be a bit slowly paced. I hope the choreography won't leave something to be desired. It was one of the best things about the anime behind music.

I'm pretty excited! I've seen what I feel is a good bit of episodes of the original but never the whole way through. Should I watch it before this comes out?

worst part i'm finding is the egregious fanservice. at least it's not on high school or middle school girls, but still bleh.

john cho is great and looks the part dressed up, but i don't exactly know him as the most kinetic actor, and he's like 47. so yeah, wondering how the fight scenes will look. it's not my favorite part of the anime, but it will definitely take up some key screen time, so hopefully it's good, even though they obviously can't replicate the anime's style.

Egregious fan service? I see almost none - and even the little i see looks like flashes to show that space has weird space hookers or something, which is pretty common in these kinds of settings. Faye is soooo toned down, which is a huge plus to me. There's stuff about Faye I really like in the anime, but it's really harmed but how fanservicy her design is and how tsundere a lot of her dialogue is based on. I think I'm going to like her a lot more here.

Her actress got tons of hate for not being just like Faye in leaked set photos a while ago, but those haters are crazy. It looks to me that they adapted her just right.

I love the other trailer a lot more for its style but this does a much better job of making this look like a good solid show. I'm officially moved from "cautiously optimistic" to "ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN"

Im pleasantly surprised by how much effort is going into this. I think it has the potential to be a lot of fun. I still cant wrap my head around Cho as Spike, though. It just feels like he was miscast. Hes a bit too stiff, old and dorky imo. Some of the dialogue isnt helping either the what the actual **** line is particularly rough. Spike comes across like an out-of-touch boomer trying to be hip.

The funny part is that's closer to what they created him to be. They designed him to be a typical aging Japanese man and specifically wanted him to appear "uncool." What makes him "cool" is that he just does whatever he wants, but he was supposed to come off differently to kinda mask that from viewers initially, I believe.
