I'm really not a fan of the goofy style, and hope the acting comes across better in the actual show because this teaser was not what I had hoped for. I'm going to watch it regardless, but while I was initially *super* excited for this, most of the recent stuff I've seen has been throwing my high hopes off a cliff.

Points for style and creativity, but I hope this isn't indicative of... really anything in the show proper.

Honestly love they they are willing to lean into the goofy aspects of Cowboy Bebop. It's not perfect but this does make me more hopeful. But I don't expect the whole show to be like this, nor do I think it should.

Still, very different from the original. You can't replace the anime but stuff like this is what it would take for it to be a worthwhile companion series.

it just feels like they're trying too hard to be goofy or something

Oh yea there was definitely funny moments in Cowboy Bebop, but its like they were looking at movies from the past 5 years and being like "what can we copy?" or something

IDK

It could be decent, but as you know, Live action anime adaptations, that will make it godly

I applaud the creators for trying (because they clearly are - this doesn't appear to be a "soulless cash grab" by any standard)... but I still expect this to be a lame take on a masterpiece of source material.

Still, it might get a lot of people to check out the original.

that was awesome

i agree that the acting is over the top, but this certainly just looks like an over the top wink at the camera trailer on purpose. it's intentionally stylized after the intro, and I expect the tone to match this trailer about as much as Cowboy Bebop actually matched its intro.

You're right and I don't like it. XD

Then again not sure why this one is grabbing my attention when I don't really care for live-action remakes of animated source material. Maybe it's hard to believe it's real, finally. I mean, people were tossing around the idea of Keanu as Spike for 10+ years and nothing.

Well as it happens the lady in season 4 was a gender flipped Grant version. So its fine!

In the case of Cowboy Bebop though, some involved have already hinted at Ed being teased, and there is a fourth slot empty in the opening.

https://screenrant.com/castlevania-season-4-interview-kevin-kolde/

On Grant, there's a village in season 4 called Danesti - similar to Danasty - and there's the character Greta, who plays an integral role in the season, almost fulfilling Grant's role. Was all that a subtle reference to Grant?

It may be that Grant, in the game, was named after that region of Wallachia, Romania. It's a real place. It was not our intention to do a Grant reference. We're just referencing a location in a country.

I saw something that said theyre planning 3 seasons, so probably adapting every episode + the movie as three or four more episodes? Maybe inventing an episode or two of their own?

but it seems likely they just changed stuff a little to get 10 Edless eps up front and then bring her in for season 2.

at least this one is clearly made by people who care about the thing theyre adapting. It could be a mess, but I dont think it can be total trash on the level of DB and Avatar.

I liked that they leaned into the campiness for the teaser, but the fact that things got serious for a second the moment Vicious made an appearance gave me hope that the actual product can be more than just that. Some of you guys need to lighten up. If you wanted a shot for shot adaptation of the original just watch the anime. There would be no point to this existing if they didn't take a few creative liberties.

Also when Spike grabs the dividing bar and it turned into a bo staff that really put a smile on my face. I have above average hopes for this and I'm a huge fan of the original. It's gotta be better than the Death Note LA... right?

I don't know a single person that was asking for this. In fact, the only opinions I have ever seen regarding Bebop is that they either need to make new anime episodes, or just leave the series completely alone so it can stand on its quality.

We all know that with something like Cowboy Bebop - considered a pinnacle of its original medium - any sort of adaptation is going to lose something, so I understand the logic of "they have to replace what is lost with something else / bring something different to the table." Totally get that.

I do feel like going all in on the Kung-Fu Hustle/Stephen Chow vibe isn't quite it though. Like there's certainly zany/madcap eps of CB, but that's really only like a third of its charm. And the light-hearted antics of CB really only work when juxtaposed with the show's more serious/aesthetically different tones, which I'm not really picking up on.

The thing about animation is that it allows for all of these influences to blend "effortlessly." In an ep of CB you get sci-fi, noir, western, comedy, hong-kong martial arts, and, well, anime itself, all at once. It just seems impossible that a live-action medium can do that due to limitations in human performance and special effects.

Hard agree.

There was a lot of space in the original. Hardy har har, what I mean by "space" is time afforded in the show to think about the characters/plot, life in general, and listen to smooooth jazz. To absorb what you were watching, and give the emotions it produced in its audience some room to breathe.

This essential part is unfortunately seen as 'boring' when it comes to making trailers and teasers, so it's tough to know how much of this will be included.

My issue with this isn't that it's not a shot-for-shot adaptation of the original, although I don't really think that's as silly an idea as being implied - a wider audience getting to enjoy the story with it being in a much more accessible medium would be cool and if you could pull that off with any well-known anime it would probably be Bebop.

My issue is that I've seen multiple interviews with actors and showrunners and, as pretentious as it sounds to say, I really don't get the impression that many, if any, of them actually understand the essence of what made Bebop so good. They seem to think of it as a show about wacky, stylish, over-the-top misadventures in space first and a meditative commentary on loneliness and dealing with one's past second, instead of the other way around.

Again, there's only so much you can pull from a teaser - I'm not going full doom and gloom yet. But it doesn't exactly do anything to show me my fears are misguided, either.

Bebop is both though? And thats part of what makes the drama so effective. When I was younger I always thought that the hijinks episodes (which are a majority of the show) were a waste of time, but lately Ive realised that those lighter episodes are what makes the show work. We see a bit of that in this teaser with the tonal shift in the Vicious segment. So I have no doubt that they understand that balance. The question is if they will be able to pull it off without feeling jarring.

To me the Vicious flashback as cut in this trailer doesn't land. It just feels like "well that was random" instead of "this is important." Maybe it works in the context of the full ep, but as a call out to CB fans it feels more weird than cool.
