My wife told me to try and change my career away from my current one due to the insane amount of hours that the job is per shift

Problem is I have no job skills outside of that industry

A typical 9-5 job that she wants me to go for pays pennies and none of those jobs pay enough to even afford rent

Any strategies on how to find the best jobs on indeed? all the 9-5 jobs I see outside my industry are trash

Indeed is pretty good because it tells you if you're an early applicant, whether they're hiring multiple people, and sometimes tell you how many applied to a job. So you can get an idea of how competitive certain jobs are.

Make sure you create an account and fill out your profile. Employers and recruiters search Indeed for potential employees and will reach out to you.

Indeed is one of my go to job sites but I'm always looking within my career field. If you're looking to change careers you might need to determine what career field you want to go into and be prepared for a pay cut since you'll probably be starting at a lower rung than in your current career.

Actually this part kind of sucks. I have an account and profile but given my experience I only get offered dishwasher positions.

Use Indeed then apply directly to the jobs via their respective websites unless you want your inbox to be drowned.

Yup, I tried using it once, and it basically destroyed my Email Address...which is annoying because I don't even use it that much but was a good clean Email when I needed it.

Indeed is excellent for generic jobs, and if if you don't have the connections to find jobs in your industry it's better than nothing.

I found my first job out of college on indeed and it was a great one (for a first job out of college starter). Led to my second job a little over a year later where I've been for nearly five years.

I depends on the person obviously but wanted to throw that tip out for anyone it might help. Always good to unload some of the job search work on others. I work in the IT field and recruiters reach out to me through Indeed, Dice(IT specific job search site), and LinkedIn. I get a wide range of offered positions from part time helpdesk on the other side of the country to senior level jobs that fully line up with my career path.

I haven't had any luck on Indeed. I have an AA, a Bachelor's and lots of experience and I can't even get calls back for interviews.

People in my industry love to say it's because no one wants to work but TBH, companies don't want to hire either.

I don't know. Why do you automatically assume people are lying about things with absolutely no evidence one way or the other? Plus, I know for a fact there's at least two other professors on here.

LinkedIn is a good option, depending on what sort of job you're looking for you'll get recruiters contacting you based on your experience and education and stuff.

My wife used Indeed and it was spotty. She would send out hundreds of applications and get a fraction of callbacks on those. And most of the callbacks were vague, like people just saying "Hi this is Mark I got your application call back sometime to set up an interview!"... like, you didn't know where theybwere calling from or what the job was.

I remember my manager at my last job having a sit down with my friend and me about how he found our indeed profiles. Shit was so awkward lol. That was about 6 years ago lol. I friend said absolutely nothing to worry about and then quit the job a month or two later lol. I stayed for 3 years.

How is this unemployment for gig workers going to work out?

Any other people out there who are primarily gig workers? Have there been any concrete details about how we can file for unemployment?

I mean maybe you got hired on since then, but Kinda weird when someone who never posts about anything academic-related claims such a thing.

I think Glassdoor is more "office" based work compared to Indeed. But you need an account to do anything, so idk how you feel about that. Also since it's called Glassdoor there are probably steeper experience requirements.

I've never used Indeed to find a job but it is absolutely garbage to use to hire people.

I think I got ghosted by like 8 Indeed applicants in a row. Like the agreed to an interview, we scheduled it and then they just no showed. It was just bizarre.

Lol. You actually went to the trouble of finding a year and a half old post to try and validate your cynicism? And you still couldn't find anything to support it but still hold to it...that's seems irrationally dogmatic. Well, since you took all the time to stalk me on here (a little creepy there), I guess I'll answer you: 1) You obviously don't know much about the academic field as you can definitely make more money doing high-end gig work than teaching but due to the pandemic I didn't have much choice but to go back, and 2) I have made several posts related to academic-related claims (apparently you should be able to find them if you can find that old post you brought up). There are several examples of me debating with people about concepts of socialism and communism as well as other things.

Oh, and to answer the question, I'm one of the few people who has had tremendous luck with indeed. I've had a shit ton of interviews with eventual offers from dozens of jobs that I originally found on indeed. When I was in desperate need of a job, I landed a decent help desk position but I applied for on indeed. My personal strategy is to use the "easily apply" button because it takes much less time, and you don't have to go to the job's main website, and it does actually work.

Exactly. Mine spams my email all the time telling me that another minimum wage dispensary job is hiring. Always the same one (who gives interviews but wont hire you) and I dont even smoke anymore. They also spam a call center which I know pays minimum wage, too.

Miss me with that low wage shit, but my town is so overcrowded that youre competing with hundreds of people to even get a mcdondalds job.
