I bought some milk stouts and I can definitely taste how sweet it is but the accompanying beer taste makes it revolting. Any beer I've tried can't get past the core beer taste.

well, yes, it will always taste mostly like beer. and mostly like the brand of beer. because they're making beer, not fruity drinks.

the difference in taste is minimal, like, 5% of it. the rest is the garbage taste of beer. so you're really just focusing on the wrong part. but it's not worth it if you really dislike beer that much.

I have this issue with wine a lot of the time.

People will be like "you'll get a lot of pear and apple and earthiness on the nose" and I'll take a whiff and it smells like diesel fuel to me.

I can definitely tell the difference between a lot of beers but when you start getting to the high alcohol liquors then I can't really tell the differences in taste. Although it is easy to distinguish a decent liquor from a shitty cheap brand.

Beer, wine, cigars, coffee, etc etc etc. Anything that can be considered an acquired taste won't be as easy to discern.

Typical IPAs will have major notes of grapefruit and mango.
