My employer offers no insurance plans. That's fine though, because I don't have to pay for healthcare.

LOL I have a $60/month plan. Last week I had a $30 copay for an office visit, not too bad, then my two prescriptions I had totaled $130 out of pocket.

do they give you any type of HSA or FSA with the cheaper plan? I'm guessing it's a HDHP which, while they do have high deductibles, can actually be beneficial health plans.

I have 1500 deductible for HDHP. 300 contribution to HSA from company.

How do people end up with 6k before coinsurance? What's your max out of pocket?

I'm pretty sure most people who say "US healthcare system is fine" have literally never had to use it

We owe $5000 after insurance for my wife's stillbirth delivery, something we had no control over. A full term live delivery would've been about half that with this insurance.

On the bright side that $5000 is her max out of pocket for the year so everything she does for the next two months is 100% paid by insurance.

But there's plenty of stories of people who did everything right their whole lives going bankrupt and losing their entire life savings because they had the audacity to get cancer or something. It's so fucking dumb but 'merica gonna 'merica

I work for a Fortune 500 company with a large workforce and we have pretty good health insurance for the price.

What you've shown us here is pretty inexcusable for something that's assumably Walmart sized.

If companies are still offering plans with co-pays and more classic PPO setups, I have no idea where to find them. I thought everyone's doing HSAs now. HRAs and co-pays are on the way out.

Mine offers plans with copay. I opt for the HSA because it's cheaper and the company pays money into my HSA account (about 1k per year).

HDHP plans with an HSA are good for younger people without pre-existing conditions.

If i'm reading your one comment correctly about the prices, the difference between the two is 4600ish per year in premiums.

Do they give you money for an HSA?

the claims you can see is when I broke my wrist snowboarding at the beginning of the year.

Even though I was no where near my deductible, I still got a much better rate for service at the orthopedic
(skipped ER)

it is by design.

entrepreneurship and then middle class, with their small and medium sized business were getting in the way of corporate Americas profits.

so they had to design a way to encourage people to become good little worker bees working for them and them only.

how do you achieve that? By tying healthcare to employers and then making sure people cant get health care unless they work for a huge corporation.

add cutesy ideas such as needing W2s to get decent loans because lenders look down on self employed or small biz owner income types and voila! Corp heaven

imagine paying huge amounts monthly to maintain a plan that also needs you to first pay 7.9k if you get sick or injured and only after that, do they cover your expenses with crazy stipulations.

by paying a monthly premium you've unlocked the option to only pay 7.9k for an catastrophic ER visit instead of the two billion hospitals will charge for the band aids alone

Careful with hitting the out of pocket max (I hit mine as well this year) because it will drive up the price for subsequent years.

That's why we need Federalized National Health Insurance.

NOTE: (NOT "Health Care", but Health Insurance).

With Federal Buying Power of Every Citizen in the US, you can dramatically lower unnecessary costs and bring the costs of Health Insurance down while increasing the quality and coverage of what Health Insurance offers the average citizen.

With Federalized Health Insurance, you can choose whichever "Health Care" provider you want.

They would be required to accept Federal Health Insurance since the vast Majority of the US will be using that system.

if Obamacare actually covered everyone, like it was supposed to, then this shit wouldnt even be an issue. Everything medical, from emergency visits to vision, should be socialized. Enough is enough. The entire concept of medical insurance shouldnt exist because medical treatment shouldnt cost anything. Theyve gotten too greedy and its time to change things in favor of the citizens.
