How am I suppose to succeed in life if I can't even do well in videogames?

Feels bad that I've spent a good chunk of my life at them and I'm still trash

You can't be good at everything and no one is failure because they aren't good at something.

What are you playing and where are you stuck?

Christ, I can't play fighting games for shit. Losing matches when I shouldn't be losing, and then there's the fact that a good chunk of my inputs aren't registering for some reason, especially the dash input. I use the d-pad for movement, but a lot of the times I will accidentally input a diagonal direction instead of a horizontal direction, meaning I'll jump randomly when I mean to block or run forward

Don't even get me started on runescape

You playing fighting games wired or on Wi-Fi? If that answer isn't wired there's your issue.

I place Strive on PC, wired connection. I'm hovering around floor 8-9. It feels like a lot of the fights I could do a lot better, but I just keep making dumb mistakes like trying to jab when I should be blocking

Ohh... Yeah, I have the same issues. I think there's a certain rhythm to them where the next button press can't be too soon after the previous. But you also have to be quick because the opponent will do something which stun locks you as a hit animation plays out. So you wind up with a window of a few frames where any input is accepted. I'm terrible at rythm based game mechanics so I never felt like I understood how to play well enough to realize what I was doing wrong.

Fighting games take alot of effort and time to learn as a whole, most people who are good have been playing hard since they were much younger. There's a reason it's a genre people struggle to get into and why developers keep trying to lower the bar for entry.

Yeah, the people that typically play fighting games online typically devote themselves to one fighting game. While some ridiculously amazing fighting game players can play multiple games at a high level it's rare. In the old days before online gaming was a real thing, people would kid themselves at being amazing at say Street Fighter II because they could beat their friends or at their local arcade they were best. Online play makes people realize how much better people can be at games like that.

A great example of this is Starcraft, to be damn good at that game you have to have a high APM even if you know the game in-depth and know build orders and how to manage the units well. Without a high APM you will never be a tournament level Starcraft player.

Yeah my friends think I'm some god at fighting games because I know like one 4 hit combo into super when in reality I'm very much a beginner at best, it pisses me off.
