Say you were the type that tolerates no nonsense, refuses to deal with difficult personalities, and threatens (and often fires) to fire employees that cause trouble or headache

Would that manager be a good one?

So long as the manager is fair, thats fine.

Most employees also dont want to tolerate nonsense, deal with difficult personalities, or have coworkers that cause trouble or headaches.

That's a difficult line to tow. People don't like harsh leaders even when they're "fair" threatening to fire people for minor infractions isn't fair lol , but if they're perceived to be unfair....
Well, *you* would be the problem then.

Threatening to fire people isn't cool and isn't really good supervising lol, you need to work with your people, try to figure out how to motivate them, get them on the right track.

No, they make the work place intolerable for their employees, and people won't stay long.

There's a fine line between running a tight ship and being a tyrannical asshole. No one wants to work for an asshole, so anyone who's worth a shit under you will leave as soon as anything better, or maybe even slightly worse, comes along.

Not exacly a good way to inspire loyalty.

They call you The Terminator, and they avoid you like the plague

When you have no allies, nobody shares gossip with you, and you become oblivious to the minor events that occur

A person that is too strict is called "martinet" or "authoritarian" or "dictator." They are often accused of being "full of himself" or arrogant

This.

Fair and tough is the ideal manager, especially if the work entails quite a bit of bullshit from customers or clients.

If you are tough but irrational than you are just a prick.
