My European friends say that the black people in their countries dont really have their own subculture and are basically exactly the same as any random white person in the country. They talk the same, have the same traditions, lifestyles, personalities, etc.

Is this true? Never really thought about it.

<_<;

No, but I guess it depends on the history.

Unless you're going to argue Canadian culture is basically American.

Come to think of it, every black person ive ever met from England were pretty much exactly the same as any white person ive ever met from England. A football hooligan is a football hooligan regardless of race.

Being sensitive to real issues and tragedies instead of making up issues and tragedies to be sensitive to. Lol

Black American culture was born out of being rejected by White American culture. when you're left doing your own thing and create, magic can happen organically.

there's always White people who actually come around Black spaces and learn something, then take it back to their buddies as the hip person of the group.

"Black" people overseas are discriminated against, but not excluded from the culture. they're free to partake, but people might make it uncomfortable.

America had Jim Crow not that long ago... lol...

Black culture as we know it is very much a byproduct of slavery, jim crow and the war on drugs. Black Europeans don't experience it the same way. But Europe has its own colonial history, so other "black" cultures emerge more tied to immigration. And there is perhaps an instinctive sympathy and identification between members of the African diaspora worldwide.

if you're talking about non-African/Caribbean countries, like places in Europe and South America, they still have their so-called "Black culture"

due to stuff like immigration, you can find multiple African and/or Caribbean communities all over that can have an effect on the overall community/communities of those countries.

iirc, in the UK, even though many Black people might not even have Jamaican roots, Jamaican culture has a sizeable influence.

If you'd grown up in south London in the 70s, you might have had a quite different perspective. Caribbean blacks brought influences like ska and reggae to England, had their own patois, their own history.

Have you ever considered engaging with people who aren't football hooligans?
