Literally at Great Clips, and it was a $15 cut. I gave her a $20, and said to her to keep the change. She literally asked "that's it?" and I said "Excuse me?", and she dropped it thereafter.

Brah... I'm at Great Clips. Clearly, I don't give a shit about my hairstyle and just want a short haircut. When I used to go to actual stylists with $40 haircuts (before getting married lol), I tipped $10, and even that, I thought was "generous".

Am I just out of touch?

I also tip $5 at Great Clips. My haircut takes less than 10 minutes trim the sides and back with a #2 clipper, take an inch off the top. Go once per month.

I think $5 (33% of the transaction) is fair.

Same thing happened to me. My basic haircut has been shaving it to nearly bald. A haircut that any dumdum can do in 5 minutes.

It was only like 12 bucks and i gave her a 20 and told her to keep the change. She looked downright pissed.

Are they paid by the cut and only get slave wages or something? Like for real.

I usually wouldn't tip more than 5 or 6 bucks for a great haircut at a decent salon. Unless it's maybe over 30 bucks before tip or something.

I'll admit I'm stingy on tips sometimes but I don't care how much I tip, complaining about how much you got to the face of the person who tipped you is ultra-cringe.

Brah, people are so entitled now. Apparently, you're supposed to tip for takeout too. Look at Chili's defaulting to an 18% tip for takeout, and no "no tip" option unless you click on "Custom Tip":

Same thing with Applebees apparently, defaulting to 18% for pickup:

CONTROVERSIAL: I don't see the point of tipping food running services.

If you get delivery from a restaurant and they send one of their own employees that warrants a tip. They're doing you a service that isn't necessarily in their exact job description and should be compensated for that.

But services like Uber Eats and Doordash exist SPECIFICALLY to bring you food. They're just being contracted out to do a single role so that's the entire point of them coming to your house. In those cases the service they're running food for should be paying them to do it, it's not an extra service that doesn't need to be provided by the restaurant.

Tipping for take out is bs. I "tip" to round up to the nearest dollar -- if I paid in cash. Now, if I paid with card... $0. They should give me a discount for the gas/mileage it took to get there to pick up

Apparently you're supposed to tip these people like $5 or 20% of the food, whichever is more. Seriously wtf.

Part of my problem also comes from a report I read that Uber Eats would actually deduct their driver's fee from the tip the driver receives.

Essentially you'd have to pay them a double tip in order for them to get both your tip and what they'd have been owed in full for doing the drop. I think that stopped eventually but it was shady AF and made me distrust the companies who send these drivers around. First and foremost they should be getting their commission from the service before any excess is added by the recipient.

I sometimes will tip if I order delivery and it's raining (like a dollar, nothing big, but appreciative of making the drive in less than ideal conditions).

My X use to do it.
They basically have to pay for the booth (chair) and then they get shit. Basically "tips" is where the $$$$ at.

I tip $5 for a $20 haircut at my salon and the dressers never look annoyed.

Your stylist might just be an asshole.

Given the tipping culture here in the US, it doesnt sound all that made up.

Some really do expect tips, and some expect crazy high tips. Some really do voice displeasure to small tips or no tip at all.

A culture that I wholeheartedly wish would die.

100%, if I tipped $5, and she asked "That's it?" I would say "On second thought, give me my change. You don't get a tip, because you're greedy."
