Read the ability descriptions and guides. Most guides will go over your rotation for single target and aoe and will have how it changes as you get new abilities. Check out vulkk.com

Like any MMO, are a billion guides that will give you a good rotation to use. I did find TOR much easier though, than the likes of FF14 on that aspect at least as don't recall anything too complicated.

I played Star Wars Galaxies when I was a teenager and you have to put in this ridiculous nearly unbelievable amount of work and discover these in game secrets to become a Jedi. Once a Jedi, you could be hunted by players of the bounty hunter class

If you lost, they got a bunch of in game money, and your character was PERMANENTLY destroyed

Now we've got this care bear hand holding shit where everyone is a Jedi

Y'all are right and I should probably check guides, just wanted to try to figure things out on my own but it is not very intuitive lol.

@Funkydog You found it easier than FFXIV? My experience with FFXIV was that it handholds you on everything by unlocking your abilities for you and then it is very clear which abilities you should chain together and how to manage your buff abilities.

@Njolk I remember trying Galaxies out and I keep thinking about that when I play TOR lmao. But I'm also playing as the Imperial Agent... can't imagine being a jedi >_>

You need to personalize your UI to suit your play style. Level 15 is still pretty low and you'll be getting a lot of abilities that you won't actually need to use regularly. Right now just focus on learning what all of them do and your button rotation. You don't need to concern yourself with a real build until you get into endgame content, which you're a ways from now.

I love playing a Jedi/Force user, btw lol

I found ff14 either super basic, like you said (like with black mage) or utterly baffling and incomprehensible, like with many other jobs I tried as so much timing required to avoid messing up. TOR I found pretty simple as you have your buffs, you single targets, your aoes etc, so was easy to figure out how it all worked together to get something that worked fine for PvE.

Has been a bit since I played TOR so maybe I just forgot the learning pains though. Probably some abilities you don't have yet that will fill your rotation out, as you've got like another 50+ worth levels of them or something, so being right at the start you can probably just do whatever until you get more to start making a basic rotation.

You're right, I feel like I get wrapped up in a lot of stuff that doesn't matter until endgame (and who knows if I'll even play this in the endgame, don't think I've ever played any MMO that long).

Will say that switching to cover fudges me up every time lmao

TOR's main selling point is the story, which the base game is pretty excellent at, taste depending and if you enjoy what each class story brings. The DLC is a fairly big drop, but it has evidently picked up again recently at least.

I will say the storyline makes the expansions worth playing through.

And if Agent cover is like the Smuggler's, I suggest putting it as your "1" key, so it's always the first thing you do to set up your attacks.

They're releasing a new expansion this December, too.

Maybe I might pick it up again.

One thing I love about TOR, is you get to keep whatever expansions were out forever when you subscribed, even if you drop the subscription.

It is like the Smuggler's (I started a Smuggler character many months ago actually but only ever got off the starting planet then quit).

Cover still doesn't make much sense to me, is it worth it even if you're just crouched down out in the open? There have been many set environments where there was no actual cover.

Yeah the little energy shield is your cover if there's nothing physical to hide behind. It still reduces incoming damage and some of your abilities only work from cover.

Yeah, doing it in the open is 100% fine and what you'll often do when those abilities need it. With your companion set to healer, very little to worry about in most PvE content save the odd elite or boss battles, and then you just get out of cover and run a bit to reset it as needed (or just use abilities that don't need it, pretty sure sniper agent has some from what I remember when I used to play just it)
