Right near the end (I think?).

it was just making me too salty and I realised I wasnt having fun. But I did have fun right up until I wasnt - if that makes any sense at all.

Sucks to suck TC. It was pretty challenging I will admit. I was a bit surprised by that.

Damn, you probably would've hated the final boss anyway.

People might tell me to git gud when I say this but I feel like it was a lot more trial and error than I would have liked. A lot of games are trial and error, and that excuse is used a lot, but I think maybe because its 2D or something and touching enemies hurts you, it feels like you couldnt conceivably best most bosses on the first try. Not that you need to or even should. I dunno, Im expecting to get yelled at a lot here but I was just not having a good time by the end.

Nah, Dread is definitely the hardest Metroid I've played, almost every boss in the later half required multiple attempts for me. I just had persistence to get through them, and now that I've fully played the game once things really aren't giving me much trouble now on subsequent playthroughs.

It stopped being fun for me when I realized I as just being railroaded, Fusion-style, towards the next boss. Those "now my next form!" bosses were annoying, but not the dealbreaker.

No idea why the game insists on locking me out of places I've already been.

Yeah, I would've preferred the Super Metroid approach myself. I can appreciate how they were able to make a linear path through a maze, but I prefer manually backtracking and finding the path forward through the new options given to me. It feels more rewarding that way.

Also super-obnoxious about one-way paths leading to the next boss.

I'll recommend La Mulana. It's going to kick your ass, but your own stupidity caused that.

I thought Axiom Verge was great. Gato Roboto was good too, just short

You definitely were not expected to beat any of the bosses on the first try. Metroid is pretty much about naturally gaining knowledge and applying it

Axiom Verge is also mediocre as dog shit compared to this game and legitimately unpolished in certain areas. If you didn't like this game, you're damn sure not going to like that one.

Even though you're technically correct, there's still a lot of both intentional and unintentional sequence breaking.
From the looks of things, I gave up before that was possible.
I might come back to it, or I might just play shitty Kemco RPGs
