Mainly because I was always irritated growing up that you couldn't be in a close relationship with guy friend without others sexualizing it. It always felt like they were trying to stop men from being as open with each other as women. Most probably weren't, but it felt that way. I think that's when a lot of men started humorizing faux homosexual relationships with each other. It was taking control of the jokes instead of letting them make us homophobic and paranoid to escape that perspective. Now, I honestly don't care if someone thinks Im gay. It makes zero difference. It seems the acceptance of the gay community helped more than just gay people. Shit helps straight men be themselves regardless of what others think as well. At least, it did for me.
