It absolutely, legitimately, un-ironically holds up even without nostalgia vision. It's such a great campaign. The enemy AI is still among the best ever. The weapons feel fantastic. The bright and colorful aesthetic is awesome.

They've recently fixed several visual bugs that made it look different from the og xbox version. Problems that mcc had since launch. One of the bigger ones was jackyls shields wouldnt change color when you shoot them, which was really dissapointing. But they've followed through and provided great support on these games.

But we should really push them to implement 4 player coop on Halo 1 and 2.

I'm glad you liked the first half of Combat Evolved because now you get to play it again for the second half of the game.

The original is the first game I ever played to completion. Still some of my best gaming memories. Not only the game itself, but actually learning how to game. Ah it's so good.

Sounds like you're not playing on legendary so good on you for actually enjoyed the game, but nah it's a great game some of the later missions definitely aren't done any favors by reused levels although it makes sense lore wise.

Legendary is still enjoyable I think. The only thing in the game that I would consider to be blatantly unfair are the Rocket Flood. And they're ultimately not common enough to be as frustrating as something like the Jackal Snipers in Halo 2. Another thing is that almost every weapon is useful. You're not pigeonholed into carrying a precision weapon around with you constantly like you are on Legendary difficulty in the sequels' campaigns.

So yes, Halo: CE is pretty damn hard on Legendary in my opinion. And it's certainly not for everyone. I think a game like Halo 3 does a much better job of striking the balance between an accessible Legendary difficulty that's still a decent challenge. But at least it's mostly fair. You can't say that about Halo 2.
