It's part of what makes certain characters better at certain playstyles, though. If Broly never had super armor, he'd just get jabbed out of every grappling/heavy move he had.

What kind of move prioritization do you mean? How does it work in Smash?

I mean

A level 3 attack beating out a level 1 attack sounds reasonable, no?

Having stronger moves beating other is good and important, so long as it's balanced correctly.

Does anyone in Smash have SFA2 Rose's low strong or CVS2 Sagat's low fierce?

Priority, if it exists, should be a property of frame data/hitboxes. Trading is a fine mechanic, especially when it results in double KOs. If you want a move to be "high priority" give it armor, or have it move the hurtbox back and give the front of the move a strike immune hurtbox.

Can someone explain what this is to someone who isn't so into fighting games? Just curious about it.

Whats an example of "priority" in Smash? 20 years ago, people used to think "priority" was a hidden number in MvC2 that defined who won a trade, as opposed to just a common sense combination of hitboxes and active frames.

If two attacks are done, one will take priority over the other.
Like how a jumping kick done by your character is given less priority over a dragon punch (anti-air) move done by my character.

In some cases it makes sense like the above because the dragon punch is specifically a counter.

Another example was in Street Fighter 2, where Dictator's psycho crusher took priority over Blanka's electricity.

Most games don't actually do this. Smash is an exception because there's a lot of edge cases for characters that have weird kits that all need to interact with each other.

But basically the concept is for if two moves hit each other at the same time, one "wins"

While it sometimes looks like this is what's happening in games like street fighter, the reality is those games use different hotboxes to measure hit vs get hit and so some moves have much larger hit boxes than "get hit" boxes and those moves will beat out other moves that have a smaller ratio. Double KOs are a thing in lots of fighting games. There's no real priority system in them.

Move priority doesn't exist in Smash more than it exists in any other fighting game, unless you mean overlapping hitboxes of attacks giving certain moves a "sweet spot".

Edit: In Smash, disjointed hitboxes beat each other by priority, but that is mostly determined by damage done (as can be tested by stale moves) or logic (lasers go through punches).

There's a couple different things TC could be referring to.

Overlapping hitboxes is one, where the moves just intersect and one happens to be "longer" so it connects first.

Also though, Smash has characters with Super Armor where certain characters will just shrug off most light/medium attacks in some situations, and the take damage but don't react to them.

Dissidia and Dissidia Duodecim had it.

Spoiler alert any counter attack type character who has to use their counter as they're getting hit it using a priority move, in any game ever.

Yeah, this.
I don't know now if TC means actual priority in fighting games like anti-airs being given higher priority than air attacks or like Akuma basically being able to be jabbed out of SGS.
Or if he means it in terms of SSB with shit like heavyweights having more tolerance for some attacks of if it's the hitboxes that are the issues

I hate Smash and I love Street Fighter but theyre both fighting games.

Its a platform fighter however its still a fighter.

But yeah if TC means the game doesnt have trades and one player (usually player 1) has priority and always wins what would be tradesyeah thats wack.
