Ive only seen the first 10 episodes but unless it gets markedly better after that I tend to agree.

On the flip-side though, Samurai Champloo made by the same people, is one of the most underrated animes.

Eh, that's more of the technology advancing than anything. Like a lot of the older animes that are meant to be clean and shiny like the highschool ones, still have the dark dirty look to it. Hell, even animes that try to mimic the dark gritty future setting like Megalobox can't do that because digital art is just clean in general.

There's an overarching story that gets concluded in the last few episodes. But it's mostly an episodic space western. Treat it like The Simpsons, not Game of Thrones.

I'm not projecting at all; that's just what she was intended as. One of the main animators and artists for the show even admitted to using her as fan-service. This is how anime rolls; this is literally an industry that was founded in a country that has its federal age of consent at 13, and this is a show from the 90s, when Japan was even more lax on their laws than they are now.

Why even try? You can explain how a series redefined the art world, or added a concept to mainstream discourse, or had metatextual significance- but Scotty will just break down the series into one small out-of-context part that he disliked and ignore everything else. Don't waste your time.

I was gonna mention Akira and Ghost in the Shell, but I haven't seen much of those. My only real exposure to Ghost in the Shell is the Stand Alone Complex series from the 2000s. All I remember is a scene where Motoko offers sex to an underage boy.

Goddamn anime is horrible.
